2006 NFL Picks contest rules

Sportsrant.com 2006 NFL picks of the week:

Another exciting season is upon us and once again Sportsrant.com would like to welcome everyone to the 2006 NFL Picks of the Week contest. Once again members will go head to head, picking their weekly games to see who will come away with the 1st place prize.

This is the third straight year that the Rant has offered this contest and last season the winner received $ 1000.00 cash. This year will be a little different than last season, as the prizes will change. Last season the top 3 finishers received prizes, this year the Rant will increase that to the top 5 finishers:

1st place will receive: $ 700.00
2nd place will receive: $ 350.00
3rd place will receive: $ 150.00
4th place will receive: $ 100.00
5th place will receive: $ 50.00

Decreasing the first place overall winnings allows us increase the winners pool from 3 places to 5. This will bring more competition to the picks contest and hopefully bring more people to the site.

Rules for this season's picks contest are the same as last year:

Wins are calculated without going against the spread on a weekly basis.
Once picks are made and the cutoff time/date passes for the week, no changes can be made to the picks (A weekly reminder email will be sent out).
In the case of a tie in any of the placing at the end of the season; the playoffs and if necessary the pro bowl will be used as a tiebreaker.
If members are tied at the end of the tiebreaker then the money for that placing will be split evenly between the place finishers:
Example: 3 members finish the season with 125 wins and the playoffs with 7 wins, and then each would $ 234.00
If you forget to make your picks during any week, no corrections can be made to the overall placing. You have to remember to make your picks. Sportsrant.com will not be held liable for any mistakes made during the contest.
If for some reason, BUT EXTREMELY unlikely, the software or the site should fail, the contest will be null and void. Since I run this site alone, I do not have time to restore backups. Again this has never happened and I do not see it happening at all.

There has never been a tie to date and this is the 3rd year of the picks contest.

Ssigman won the 1st year and bamanation won last season.

Picks contestants will need to join the 2006 NFL picks of the week usergroup by logging onto the site and then navigating to their USERCP and click on the usergroups under miscellaneous under the left side navigation menu.

The deadline to signup for the contest will be Friday, September 8, 2006 at 12 midnight (CST, -6 GMT).

If I win the 700 clams then I am buying a new roto-tiller for the garden and I'll videotape me tilling the garden for everyone to see.

Yo fellas' you can count me in this year,last year I forgot to make my damn picks for a week or two and then said what the hell,I'll never win after that.well I'm here to kick some butt this year and I'll remember to make my picks this year even if I have to tie a Rants Football Picks tag around my neck.also,I'm not donating my $700 to anyone but myself,because it's painful having to watch that smoke bellowing from my ears every weekend trying to make these picks- LOL.

Sure as hell hope we have more luck with getting participants for this than contest than I'm having trying to just fill a 12 team fantasy league,but of course I'm not offering $700 either.

I was in last year, but boy i sucked it hard. Or maybe not. But the point is i could've done a whole lot better. So this year i hope i can be a LITTLE more competitive.
