MLS Thread
Eh, I figured since I watch so damn much of this now, i'd give it it's own thread. Some thoughts...
*Tomorrow night on ESPN the game between Houston and Dallas is going to be on. It should be a good match-up between the western conferences' top two teams. *Real SL forward Jeff Cunningham has really be on fire and has taken over the league lead in goals scored. Their team may not be very good, but they can be exciting at times with Kreis and Cunningham up front. *DC United is clearly the class of the league with only 2 losses in their 21 games played. *Anyone have any "inside info" or hear anything on who the next few expansion teams will be? I know Philly is in the running, and it would be cool to get another team close to me. |

I watched the Houston Dynamo and LA Galaxy match on Wednesday night. It was played at Reliant Field in Houston. I must say that the quality of the match was good. The match ended with Galaxy winning 1-0 which was completely against the run of play. A tremendous goal by LA's Santino Quaranta who made his Galaxy debut secured all three points for LA.
The match was followed by the friendly between FC Barcelona and Mexican side Club America, one word for this match, Ronaldinho. |

I missed the Houston/LA game wednesday night cuz i was watching my Revs look horrible and get lucky to end with a 0-0 tie vs. Kansas City. The Revs were playing on dead legs so i guess the result was pretty good.
Houston's problem (from my very little soccer knowledge and what i can see) is they seem to rely totally on Ching on offense. They are a strong defensive team and seem to try to control the midfield... which is fine, but no one seems to want to step up and push on offense. LA stinks outside of your boy "Landycakes". They have been playing better, but I don't see them making the playoffs. |

toronto will be the first city to get an expansion team.....after toronto, they are saying they want 2 more teams i believe...philly would be a good city to have one but i think they are looking at a midwest state first...i can't remember what the commish said when they interviewed him before the mls all star game....

Good points Jay vis-a-vis Ching. The Dynamo did try to funnel all of the attack to him and he proved himself to be well ah, um, useless.
As far as expansion goes, ssigs is right for next season. Toronto FC join MLS for 2007. I have read that the league wants to add another team for 2008. I think before that happens though they want to find a permanent home for Kansas City Wizards. The Wizards are kind of a lame duck almost in KC. If a local owner cannot be found in the off season look for them to move. The likely expansion candidate cities that I have seen are; St. Louis Philly (although the team would be based in New Jersey) Cleveland Seattle San Jose (if a new stadium can be built) |

horseshit... commish garber said k.c. might stay put...don't know if he was just spewing hot garbage or if he was serious....i think cleveland will get the next expansion |

I knew about Toronto because that was a done deal. What are they going to do with the conferences? Just add Toronto to the east? Also, would a Philly team not play at Franklin field in Philly? However i can see how that can be scheduling problems later in the year with UPenn playing Football. But you can just schedule the Philly team to be away when UPenn is at home.
Also, it looks like KC might be near reaching a deal to keep them in KC. The Johnson County Sun |

Exactly ssigs! It does seem that with each new MLS stadium they are getting it better and better, which can only help the sport grow especially if you tie in all those practice pitches like in Colorado. I suppose they could use those practice pitches for all kinds of youth tournaments and such.
