The (sports) Gospel According to Mark: McCool McRules
In 1980 the Miracle on Ice captured America’s heart. It was a rough time for the U.S. during those Olympics, but the hockey fever that swept the nation was able to give the hopeless hope, to give the unpatriotic a reason to buy a flag, and was able to bring a nation together. African-Americans,...

Are you on crack? I mean, you have some good points, but come on. You cannot compare 1980 to 2004.
In 1980 we had lines at gas stations MILES long. Korea and Viet Nam were huge failures that we were trying to recover from. Watergate. US Embasies being over run, and hostages in Iran. The USSR was testing nuclear missiles all over Asia. We were fucked. Today, we have fairly high gas prices, but we are coping. The economy could be better, and we are in a war that is questionable to say the least. To compare the two era's is like apples and oranges. Were you even alive in 1980? If so, you would understand the difference. You would know the difference between desperation and adversity. |

I'm not refuting your claim, because I wasn't even alive in 1980. I would, however, think that Vietnam would be a much more recent memory in the minds of most Americans, and that the events of the Korean War would have been - for the most part - buried. Vietnam was also a much bigger disaster for the United States than Korea. We went in alone to stop the Communist threat and wound up getting kicked around by the VietCong. At least in Korea, we were being supported by a UN task force, and a cease fire was put in place and the spread of Communism was stopped on the Korean Peninsula. Just the opinion of a smartass 21-year-old... Don't mind me. |

By the way, I only picked out that one sentence because it's the only one I can argue with. You're right on all other accounts. 2004 is not 1980 by any means, and we really can't compare the two equally.

I don't think you can compare 1980 to 2004, not yet at least. It was a sarcastic remark. I do think everyone needs someome to believe in to pull everyone together. Why not Courtney McCool? I mean, her name is McCool, that is awesome. If you cant back someone named McCool, you are unamerican.
