Saturday night - HBO

I see there isn't much boxing talk here, but I am a HUGE fan of boxing. If anyone isn't doing anything saturday night, and wants to check out some good boxing tune into HBO. They have 2 very good fights scheduled.

1. Arturo Gatti, 37-6 (28 ko's) vs. Leonard Dorin, 22-0 (8 ko's)

2. Jesse James Leija 46-6-2 (19 ko's) vs. Francisco Bojado 16-1 (11 ko's)

These fights, at very least should be entertaining. Gatti has won the "fight of the year" award 4 times, and many people are predicting his fight saturday to win this year.

I myself, can not wait for the fights to start! Anyone else here give a shit about the sport?

I think boxing is one of those sports you have to bet on to make it
interesting like horse racing.Otherwise,to me,the WWE is more entertaining.

Really?? I don't usually bet on it, i just love to watch it. Nothing better than two guys in the ring beating the shit out of each other for 12 rounds. I have some older fights (not really old) on tape that i love to pop in and watch when there isn't anything else on.

Yep,I guess there are some good fights, but seems like the ones I have watched
were boring with the two guys tired out and hanging on each other half the time.

Well thats good enough... i mean what do you really NEED to know about it? The goal is to break the other guys face and beat him so badly he either, 1. can't get off the ground to take more punishment., 2. Doesn't want to take anymore of a beating from you., 3. If you can't knock him the hell out, you have to hit him more times than he hits you to get a decision victory.

Simple sport for my simple mind.

If there are fights where the two boxers are really hammering each other,I would like that. But,how many are really good matches compared to bouts where they
just hang on each other and connect only a few times a round?

Agreed, I more meant that I don't know much about the fighters, that might make it more interesting

The really, really good fights are few and far between from the bouts where they just hang on each other, i'll give ya that. But most of the time (with the major fights) you won't have too much hanging on each other. Usually the fighters are both very skilled, so you get a skilled match with more stratagy than just banging.

But saturdays fight between Gatti and Dorin, is looking like its going to be one of those all out slugfests. I can't wait!

How about Antonio Tarver who lives in Tampa. He's the Light Heavyweight Champ I believe.I would have liked to have seen him beat Roy Jones Jr.

I saw the replay of that fight... Tarver hit him with a GREAT left. Jones jr. never saw it coming and it rocked him. IMO, Jones is a better fighter than Tarver, but got caught with his pants down. Yes, Tarver is the Light Heavyweight champ. I would love to see those two re-match each other.

My favorite fighters are..

1. Floyd Mayweather
2. Jamel McLine
3. Arturo Gatti

I get to see Gatti saturday, i can't wait.

Wasn't that their second fight? Tarver gave him a scare the first time. How could
he have been caught with his pants down?

That was their second fight... and yes, tarver did put up a good fight. I really have no basis on my thought of Jones being better, just from what fights i have seen out of the two of them.

I meant jones was caught with his pants down because he was caught off guard. He wasn't expecting that big left from Tarver. It was one of the best punches i have ever seen. Not something you would expect from him.
