High School Season Canceled
Does this happen often in high school football...seems like a shitty thing for all parties involved...what do they do with the schedule. Just thought this was weird.
SI.com - More Sports - Oscoda (Mich.) cancels rest of season after 0-4 start - Thursday September 28, 2006 11:10AM... Full Article |

Never heard of nothing like that before, good find beers. My first thought after reading was if the coach thinks it is unsafe for the kids to play then he did the right thing. If the kids are that physically overmatched why risk playing. But you're right it does suck for all parties involved.

How mismatched can it really be...I'd love to know how long this program was in place. Really strange to me the whole scenario....what if there were one or two really good juniors or seniors that were vying for a college recruitment and possibly a scholarship?

Wow... not sure if i've ever heard of this happening before. The rest of their games will just be forfeit wins for the teams they were supposed to play. I've gotta say, with this article being ALL i know of the situation, i agree with the coaches decision.
Sure you want the kids to at least be able to play. BUT they are still just that, kids. If the coach says they aren't safe, you don't want to risk permanent injury. And with scores of 46-0, 30-0, 44-0, and 44-0... you have to see the coaches reasoning. Plus, due to injury and school size they barely have enough players to field a full team. I don't know what level they are at, but the league should really think about dropping them down a class. |

Good call Capt on dropping them down a level. Seems to make a lot of sense. I wonder how years past were?

that sux for the kids though....they are clearly overmatched but i know they don't wanna stop playing....i think they need to drop them not just 1 level, but maybe even more...make them like an independent school and allow them to schedule their own games against other weak schools

Physical pain vs. Mental pain sucks either way in reality...for the kids.

wow, look at those scores.
They were getting beat, but scores can't go to say who they were playing physically. Even if they were outsized, they still should be able to play. Hopefully they'll drop a division next year so they aren't playing such competitive teams. |
