Reinstate Pete Rose Now
Enough is enough dammit!
Pete Rose is the all time hits leader in Major League Baseball. Pete Rose committed an act that is against baseball rules, by betting on baseball games while he was apart of the Cincinnati Reds organization. In February 1989 reports started to circulate that... Full Article |

I saw Pete Rose in his prime with the Cincinnati Reds. Did he hustle, yes. Did he know how to hit, obviously. Is he the all-time hits leader? Of course he is. Still, he bet on baseball. I always rooted against him as a player because his Reds met my Pirates many times in the NLCS. Pete Rose does not deserve to be reinstated eff him, he bet and got caught and I am still smiling.

They let people come back that break all kinds of rules! Drugs are no big deal, throw a bat at an umpire...50 games. Bet on baseball lifetime ban!?

No it isn't, the one rule in baseball that is surely to get you a lifetime ban is gambling on baseball. Is doing drugs worse than batting? On a moral scale that is for each person to decide. In the world of baseball though doing drugs is punishable but not to the extent that gambling is. Now why do you think that is the case? Because the drugs or alcohol hurt the person involved and perhaps may hurt his team's chances if that player cannot perform to the best of their ability. When players or managers gamble then the whole integrity of the game is tainted which is far worse according to the rules. The whole worldof sport is built upon relying on the integrity of the competitors when that trust is tarnished then the whole concept of sport falls apart.
So in conclusion eff Pete Rose. |

And nothing is compromised when a player throws a deadly weapon at the person in charge of enforcing the rules of the game? I rather have a gambler

that is what I am saying! But if you do something in Baseball such as Rose did, don't you think that 17 years is a good enough sentence!!! I mean people who are found guilty of gambling illegally in other states or what have you are not given life sentences
PS > Gunny you do make a great argument, I just believe that he has served his time, that is all |

I don't see the point either way...has the game really missed him? Has he missed the game? If he does come back what will he do? It will be a media frenzy for a week and then no one will care once again.

Does it really matter that the game has missed him or vice versa? A AT&T park a few years ago, they had the 25 best players or something like that and he was there, the crowd went crazy!
Again, this is just my feeling! I believe he needs to be allowed back in |

I'll just re-post my article from a P/CP contest from last year...
Pete Rose in the hall? Well at this point the time has passed that he cannot be allowed into the hall anymore and I think that is a very good thing. Rose should NOT be allowed into the hall anyhow, anyway. What he did completely undermines the integrity of the game. But maybe integrity doesn't mean anything to the people who feel he should be in the Hall. Maybe people who don't care about the sport will want him in. The Hall of Fame should be exactly what its name says... highlight the Fame of the sport. How can someone who bets on the sport and HIS TEAM be named as one of the highlights of a league. How would that make the league look? Reward the person for betting on the sport while he's still in the sport? That simply makes no sense at all. People always ask the question, "but what does his gambling on the sport or on your team hurt? It's not like he bet against his team and hurt them". Just because he didn't try to make the team lose to win his bet doesn't mean he couldn't have been hurting them. If you bet on your team to win, wouldn't you do anything you could to make your team win. Wouldn't you play your star player even if he was a little banged up and could use some time off? Wouldn't you leave your star pitcher in the game longer than he should because he is your best option to win? Couldn't this have an affect on the team for the long term? Now lets say Rose gets in trouble with the bookies because he's in a big hole. He owes them a ton of money. How can he get out of this situation? Wouldn't he now have the opportunity to give bookies inside information on his team so that they can go out and bet for or against his team? Do you want to set the "bar" by telling the fans, players and everyone in baseball that you can still get into the hall of fame if you bet on the sport? He still gets to keep all of his awards, and all of his numbers. He is not 'erased' from record books, he's just not allowed in the hall. That seems to be a fitting punishment for doing something so bad against the league. It is not as if he didn't know it was against the rules. |

he doesn't want back into baseball...he wants his rightful place in the hall....and that he deserves cause that is based on what he did as a player...what he did as a manager should have no bearing to what he did as a player....and as a player, he's a hof'er no doubt...baseball should do the right thing and allow him his spot there....
