Fan Interest in Basketball

How come we don't talk about Basketball that much! Is this sport on a decline or lost popularity!

Man when I was a kid I used to follow it all the time, watching the Warriors and listening to all the games on the radio.

I really think there has been a fan decline totally!

I used to watch the Larry Bird led Celtics back in the day and still followed some when Jordan was with the Bulls.Since then,I have lost total intrest with the style of play in the NBA and also the personalities that make up the league.
I just follow some college basketball now.

yeah that seems to be the trend! Do you think it is the personalities that has caused the decline. What about the way the uniforms have changed (personally I like the newer style)! I would like to see some sort of sudy that shows what the decline is really!

Uniforms are much better. Now when you see footage from past decades in the tight shorts,it's laughable.
I never hear of any NBA attendance problems, so I guess the sport still has plenty of fans, but I'm sure the sport has lost a lot too.I would say mostly beacause of the watered down version of the game. The thugs that play are a turn off too,but I'm not sure if that alone would keep someone from watching.

I just can't stand the NBA. I hate the selfishness, the lack of team play, and the overall attitude of the normal NBA player. The whole thing is such a huge turn off to me. I have probably watched about 3 minutes of NBA games so far this year. I know for a fact that I won't watch one full game this year, playoffs included.

BUT, i have no idea how the NBA is doing in terms of fans or tv ratings. I'm sure the attendance is better in the arenas of the winning teams than the losing ones.

However, come college basketball season, i'll be hear to talk about it any day. I really like the college game... because it is the total opposite of what I typed above.

I still follow the Knicks, especially now that I have DirecTv and MSG. But talking about them makes the Raiders problems seem small.

I think the NBA if focusing on their overseas fans (who make up 25% of merchandise sales) and growing that market. How do you market a league that has players pulling guns outside of strip clubs. To a degree I think they gave up a little on the US market, they will never compete with football and know it.

They focus to much on the showbiz aspects and to little on the game. The individual is glorified instead of good team play. The sneaker sales are the priority not defense. I miss the 70's & 80's Celtics, but I also miss the 80''s 76ers, Rockets, and Lakers(I cannot belive I said I miss the Lakers). Even those late 80's & early 90's Pistons. The Bulls had the Jordan but they were still about team. These guys todat are bling and bullshit.

Not hard to understand man, kinda like soccer. Put the ball in the net (basket) > hence the word > basketball!!

usually 5 people vs 5 people on a full court!

Hope that clarifies that for you

I think I figured out the put the ball in the net business FFS!

But all those fouls and timeouts and things like that are way too confusing.
