I believe that this game could definately be called a "nail biter."

CU jumped out to a 17-0 lead through a quarter and a half, but CSU scored late in the first half to make it a 10-point defecit. In the second half, CSU came out firing and CU came out... Well... Not firing. Through 3 quarters, it was 17-14, CU. Then, in the 4th quarter, all Hell seemed to break loose.

CSU tied the game at 17, but CU responded with a magnificent 55-yard field goal. On the very next play from scrimmage, the CSU quarterback was intercepted, and the ball was returned for a touchdown. 27-17 CU. At that point it looked like the Buffs had the game in hand.

Not so fast there... CSU struck back to make the score 27-24, and they had the ball in Colorado territory with less than a minute to go. With thirty seconds left, the Rams had driven inside the CU 10-yard line, and they got the ball all the way down to the 1. First and goal, game on the line.

First down: Rushing attempt. Stuffed by the CU defense.

Second down: Rushing attempt. Stuffed by the CU defense.

Third down: Rushing attempt with less than 5 seconds left in the game. Stuffed by the CU defense.

The clock runs out and the game ends. Final score: CU 27, CSU 24. Trying my best to be impartial here, this game was a great one. CU played well to start the game, and CSU played well to finish it. In the end though, CU's defense (which gave up only 44 rushing yards) and a little luck gave the victory to the Golden Buffaloes.

I even got to rush the field at the end of the game! How cool is that?!

Bumpitty-bump.

It's that time of year again. CU and CSU are playing this Saturday, and I am once again exctied to be going to the game at Folsom Field. It should be an interesitng matchup, since CSU is certain to have improved over last year. I know for sure they won't have time-management issues at the end of the game at the CU 1 yard line.

And if they do? Well, all the better for the Buffs.

GO BUFFALOES!!!

*dances*

Another overly-thrilling CU-CSU game ended in the way it has three of the past four years, with Colorado clutching victory from the jaws of defeat. Like last year and in 2003 before it, the game was decided in the final two minutes of the game.

This year, the sun was blazing down over the city of Boulder and Folsom Field at 1:40pm for kickoff. The stadium was packed to capacity, 54,908 football fans ready to see the game between the long-time in-state rivals. CSU fans clad in green were tucked into the northwest corner of the stadium; everywhere else, black and gold CU fans filled the seats.

I won't go into great details, but CU was down 14-10 at the half. That's when I went to get water and the line for the water fountain was 20 minutes long and it was hotter than hell. But that's beside the point.

CSU increased their lead to 21-10 by the end of the third quarter, and it was not looking good for the Buffaloes. When the fourth quarter came along, CU took the game over. A touchdown, a two-point conversion, and a field goal later, the game was tied 21-21. CU then went ahead on a touchdown run by Hugh Charles, 28-21. When CSU got the ball back with a mere 90 seconds left, the game looked to be in hand.

But that was not the case... CSU stormed down the field and scored the tying touchdown with less than 40 seconds remaining. The kickoff was taken up to the 35 yard line, and CU was set for business. Several plays later, the ball was near the CSU 30 yard line, and there were but 9 seconds left.

That's when Buffs star kicker Mason Crosby was summoned. With seeming ease, the ball was booted through the uprights in the southern end zone, leaving 4 seconds on the clock and CU ahead 31-28. CSU took the ball at the 20 and got one final play off, but it wasn't enough. The clock ran down to zero, excited CU students stormed the field, and victory in the 2005 Rocky Mountain Showdown was claimed by Colorado.

Let me be honest though. CU got lucky. If not for a few timely turnovers and some big stops on defense, CSU would hav emore than likely won the game and sent nearly 51,000 CU fans home very unhappy.

Oh well. That's not the case. CU won, 31-28, and the rivalry shift sback to Denver in 2006.
