It is deserved. It serves the game well when a new young star emerges and takes some hardware home.

You gotta love that East Coast Media Bias.

Pujols was way more deserving given how clutch he is and the fact that the Cards, you know, MADE the playoffs. But whatever. At least Ryan Howard is from St. Louis.

I wondered why Jason Marquis didn't get more play for the Cy Young.
Now it all makes sense

Howard is a fine player, no question, but outside of HRs and RBIs Pujols had a much better year statistically including a better slugging percentage, better on base numbers, and less than one third of the strikeouts. Plus Howard plays in a hitters park ESPN.com - MLB - Park Factor. And if I'm not mistaken, Pujols had the most game winning RBIs of anyone in the NL. If that doesn't show value, I don't know what does.

Last year Pujols was clearly better than anyone else. This year Howard was a kind of media darling, a young guy doing so well, and in the end it got him the award.

It's not that I think Howard's completely undeserving or that it's some kind of farce, it's just that I think the award went to the wrong guy.

Stop whining and get over this bias load. Ryan deserved the award, not because of location but because of performance.

Point taken Andy. And you make a very good arguement. And honestly, because of the reasons you listed, i thought about picking Pujols as well. His team made the playoffs, Howards didn't. However, Howard did lead his team to the best record in the NL after the all star break.

My reasoning for picking Howard (other than he is a Phillie ) is because his team would have been MUCH worse without him. The Cards, except for the late year tumble (when Pujols was on the team), would have been a playoff team without him. Howard was more valuable to his team than Albert was to his.

Its not a "Player of the Year" award.

I totally see where you are coming from. It's all right I guess, it's not like the Cards are lacking in hardware right now anyway...
