From ESPN Insider
The market for Manny Ramirez continues to be robust. The Red Sox are talking with the Giants seriously about Manny, writes Henry Schulman, a trade that would have many ramifications -- not the least of which is that the acquisition of Manny would end any chance of Barry Bonds re-signing with the Giants. You have to wonder how the Giants can get a deal done for Manny, because they have almost nothing to offer up in a deal; San Francisco would never talk about Matt Cain, so from Boston's perspective, left-handed pitcher Jonathan Sanchez would almost certainly have to be included to anchor the trade. The Red Sox talked with the Indians about Ramirez, but those conversations are dead. The proposals were unworkable from Cleveland's end because of Ramirez's salary and because of the level of prospects the Indians would have had to surrender. Ramirez would have been a perfect fit in the middle of the Indians' lineup, batting behind Travis Hafner and giving him the same kind of protection he gave David Ortiz in Boston. And because Ramirez played in Cleveland before, he might have asked for less money to accept the trade. But for a team that opened last season with a $56 million payroll, Ramirez would've been an incredibly expensive bauble -- and, going forward, the Indians will have to have money available to pay Hafner. One way for them to do that will be to continue to develop and maintain a steady pipeline of prospects, and Ramirez would have cost them some of their best (and cheapest) talent. Stay tuned; you get the sense that the Red Sox are increasingly comfortable with the idea of moving Ramirez even if they aren't offered a perfect package in return. It may be that the team has just grown weary of Manny Being Manny. |

Same problem as always when the Manny trade talks come up. Its VERY hard for a team to justify giving up what it would take to get Manny... AND pay his huge salary. Hell, didn't the Sox waive him a couple of years back and no one even wanted to claim him?
Sure he could be moved, however i bet he stays in Boston yet again... unless they are willing to pretty much give him away. |

There is all kinds of talk up here on Manny. The Giants, Padres, Rangers, and Angels are the teams most mentioned. The Phillies & Marlins are possibily in the mix also. If anything were to happen it seems it would involve mutiple teams. The J.D. Drew talks seem to have connection here. Good article here, BostonHerald.com - Welcome.

GO SOX!

If they get Drew this week I see a deal coming a couple of days after, most likely to the Padres. From what I've read they could get packages involving Peavey, Linebrick, and Adrian Gonzalez. I think that if he does go to San Diego it will be for linebrick and gonzalez simply because the sox will prolly sign Daisuke to round out their rotation and won't have a real need for another, unless, of course, we can get Clemens to come back for one last season.
And I can actually see him being moved because he is getting paid less than he usually is in the next two seasons, I think it is comined 38 mil, but not sure.

a trade to the orioles is the only one that could make sense. that way they could get tejada in return. giants don't have shit. need to get something to replace his bat.

I really don't think they can get anything to replace his bat. The closest is tejada, but he wont be manny. This all hinges on getting JD Drew first, who would take manny's spot in the lineup if he got traded. Manny will be headed out west....if he gets traded.
