End of an Era.

It was a sad day in the world of boxing saturday night. Former 'pound for pound' king Roy Jones Jr. was KO'd in the 9th round in Tennessee. After getting caught by what some say was a lucky punch from Antonio Tarver, Jones stepped back into the ring for what was called a 'warm up fight' for a Tarver/Jones re-match. Roy's opponent was Glen Johnson, who is a solid fighter but not to Roy's caliber. Johnson was 8-9-1 in his last 18 fights coming into saturday night.

Johnson, from the opening bell controled the fight, hitting Jones jr. with everything but the kitchen sink. Finally in the 9th round Johnson hit Jones with a big right hand that crush Roy to the mat, smacking the back of his head off the mat twice. Jones laid motionless for about 10 minutes before he was able to get to one knee. Johnson was up on the score cards 6 rounds to 2, in total control.

Like him or not Jones was one of the all-time greats in boxing... and it appears it will be time for him to hang up the gloves and re-join his fellow announcers back in the HBO booth.

On a side note... Roy Jones Jr. was the 'cover boy' for EA Sports "Fight Night 2004". Jones Jr. proceeded to get knocked out 2 times in the year 2004. Before the cover, he had never lost a fight, other than being DQed one time along time ago. Makes you wonder.

Yeah, i thought about ya after the fight. Your boy got KTFO! I was in total shock and really couldn't believe what I was witnessing from the opening bell. Johnson dominated a slow Roy jones. I have never seen (and i have seen alot of his fights) him so slow to react and take so many direct punches. Damn aging.

All good things must come to an end...but hell that near ended his life. He still doesn't know his name!

And he refused to go to the hospital after the fight! This makes no sense to me... sure, in boxing you have to be tough and prove you are a man. But damn, Jones just got his ass destroyed and thought he was Batman. I think at that point you need to get your head checked out.

What would possibly be his reason not to go to the hospital? His career is over...he can't see no even spell batman....his eyes are now forever crossed....but hell I am a boxer...I'm not going to the hospital.....I guess all the lost brain cells over his career finally caught up to him~!

Many Americans,under the Bush presidency,can no longer afford health insurance.Jones was obviously behind on his premiums and could not go to the hospital.
