The Aftermath of an Ugly Incident
Listening to all the rhetoric about the Knicks fiasco over the past two-plus days, you would think someone had died instead of just catching a fist to the jaw. Here are my random thoughts on the subject.
• Mardy Collins: Although some may put all the blame on the rookie for taking down J.R.... Full Article |

You make some good points and overall I think you are right on. Let me nitpick a bit.
There is a huge difference when it come to fights in basketball and hockey. In hockey it is still a part of the game like it or not. It also help that the fans are seperated from the [players by an actual physical barrier. The odds of a fan getting hurt in a hockey fight are quite slim. It is gennerally the same in baseball, with few exception is is very unusual for fans to get involved in a baseball fight. In basketball the fans are right there on top of the players. Oops gotta go, three hour meeting coming up. Talk with you later! |

I disagree, the I think that if Mardy Collins and the rest of the Knicks had any pride in them, they would have played harder from the get go. The time for all that anger and energy was during the game, not with 1:45 left on the clock, or however much time was left. Secondly, Isiah Thomas should be fined and suspended for what went down. I saw the espn replays and its pretty clear that he said something along the lines of don't go to the basket. And for all the talk about showmanship and one upping people Mr. Nate Robinson has that category locked up because he attempted some crazy dunks like that one where he tried to bounce it off the floor and dunk while the Knicks were up big in Cleveland. If that dunk had landed should Lebron have been able to take him down too? Also, Denver has blown many a late lead this season so if George Karl wanted to leave them in to protect a lead, or run up the score, show up Isiah, whatever he had every right to do so. This isn't the first or last time the Knicks are going to lose big this season, does that mean that they have the right to bring people down in headlocks which is what Mardy Collins did, everytime they're behind. Bottom line is Mardy Collins should have been penalized harsher for starting the whole thing, and this wasn't the first time this has happened with him. The previous game in Indiana he goes in with roughly two minutes left and gasp picks up a flagrant foul. If that's his idea of pride, being called in to cheap shot someone because the Knicks suck, then I feel sorry for him. Nate Robinson, the chief instigator should also have a longer suspension, as long or at least longer than Carmelo. And Carmelo shouldn't have thrown that punch especially when everything was calming down, but to suspend him the most games when the chief instigators were all Knicks is absurd.

um...the fact still remains that the only punch thrown was by carmelo and for that he was and should be suspended the longest....period..fighting is not allowed in the nba and he took it to that next level...

But without the foul or Nate Robinson jumping in and taking it to the next level the punch is never thrown. I think those factors should have been taken into account first. Plus the guy was clearly goading him into throwing a punch, probably called him a snitch or something.

I think those factors were taken into account, the point is, no matter what happens he should not have reacted in the manner he did regardless of the factors that lead up to it.

Oh I understand completely, its just I've been in a similar situation in terms of a fight where other people started it, emotions were all built up, and then I took a swing or engaged in action and was the who ended up getting in the most trouble so that why I think I side with Melo so much in this one.

i see your point....i think david stern is just cracking down as hard as he can so this doesn't happen anymore and since melo threw the punch...he gets the most games....then it trickles down to the others involved who instigated it the most
