UFC takes nice step forward.
Zuffa has bought and abolished the WFA fighting league, and has also bought the WEC fighting league. This means more fighters for the UFC and even better matchups. They will keep the WEC active and use it as a "minor league" to the UFC. A way for them to give younger/newer fighters a chance to prove themselves.

Dude, this is old news. The only good thing to come out of it is that they bought the contract of Quinton "Rampage" Jackson. For those of you who don't know, and I'm sure that's all of you, he is the one who put a very quick end to Chuck Lidell's stay in Pride. Knocked him out in fact.

The deal was worth it just to get a hold of Rampage jackson's contract. For all hardcore MMA fans, Liddell/Jackson II is a dream fight. I would look for them to line that up once Liddell disposes of Ortiz

this story isn't brand new but jay is right..it hasn't been talked about...and the move wasn't only for rampage...despite beating liddell in pride, the guy loses to all the top competitors and hasn't fought anyone of late

i think part of it was to get him but the other guys the article mentions, especially machida will only strengthen the competitions...machida has more upside than rampage, although rampage will put on a better show outside the ring...

HOLY SHIT! I saw he was 8-0 but didn't go any further into his record. Was this a dude you were talking about before? Thats an insanely impressive record for only 8 fights. Shit, thats impressive if you have 25 fights. This sounds like a guy i'd love to see in the Octagon.

Are you kidding? Look who this guy has beaten! He just beat Lindland in July, Lindland may not look like much, but he is a veteran fighter. Olympic silver medalist wrestler too! He's beaten Arona, Liddell, Bustamante, Randleman, and Vovchanchyn. The guy is 25-6! So he couldn't get past Silva, everyone has their own kryptonite. Did you see the fights between wanderlei and Rampage? Probablly not... They were fucking insane!

matt lindland is a veteran but not someone who your gonna look at and go, wow, he beat him...the guy was fighting in the ifl..not a top fight organization....the other guys he beat were good but none stand out except liddell...arona is a decent fighter who's only goal was to beat silva..then he got knocked to shreds by hua...randleman...good win....but i'd say he beat an old fighter there....i did see the second fight between them and if i remember correctly....rampage lost by knockout...the guy will do fine in ufc, but he'll gain more popularity for his personality than his fight

yea this is the guy i was talking about awhile back...the guy hasn't backed down from anyone and has beaten them all...if anyone is gonna win a belt out of this group, its gonna be him...

3 of his 8 wins are in K-1 which if i remeber correctly is weak sauce. He has fought some tought guys though. I think a big part of this deal was to bring in some tougher competition for liddell, and stack up the light heavy div. If only they would do something with the pathetic heavy weight div.

k1 is kickboxing...the top level of it...i wouldn't call it weak..mark hunt was in k1...randleman was in k1...gary goodridge was in k1...

i'll agree with you that they need to spice up the heavyweight division..right now its the worst division they have....and the liddell/jackson fight will bring people in cause of the pride fight they had plus jackson is good in front of the camera...

K-1 is the top of kickboxing, but not really mma. Its one dimentional, full of cut-rate fighters like bob sapp!!! They stop if someone slips, gets knocked down, or even just gets rocked. Its not weak in the fact that I would get the shit kicked out of me, its weak compared to the UFC. Rampage would definitely sell tickets. I wouldn't be surprised to see him jump into the ring after the Liddell KOs Ortiz

Random UFC news/notes -

*tonight on Conan O'brien, he will have guest Chuck Liddell. Should be pretty funny.

*tonight on "inside the UFC", Randy Couture will make an announcement that will "shock the UFC. Leading many to speculate that he's coming out of retirement.

They will start at midnight with Inside the UFC on Spike and then Conan on at 12:35.

*Also, HBO will show 3 live UFC fight cards in '07. Which will give us even more to watch with the PPV's and the free spike cards.
