World Junior Championships

Its that time of year again to find out who has the best under 20 year old players. Canada is obviously the favorite once again, but this years USA team is actually supposed to be one of the best according to many 'experts'. Games got underway today, and team USA goes out and stinks...

Is this double elimination? If so this will be a short tourney.

As a prospect you can't play in the NHL yet right?

Its pool play... so the top 3 teams in each group advance. We're down 2-0 now... we stink. If we lose, we will need to beat Sweden and Slovakia to have a shot at advancing. (I believe thats how it works, don't follow this tourney too closely)

Prospect means you aren't in the Flyers system as of yet. This tourney is for under 20 year old players... and downie is still playing for his junior league team. I believe this is only for college and junior league players. Jack Johnson was also a high pick and he's playing for team USA, and he is property of the Kings and is in college right now.

So prospects are "property" of a team but not yet in any part of their system? So prospects can be drafted and remain in juniors/college until a certain age and then can join their respective NHL team or be cut loose?

Sorry I know ish about all the minors and juniors and players not on NHL teams and how that works lol.

Yep, we needed to beat Germany who was supposed to be the worst team in our group.

Players are property of the team that drafts them for 3 years (i believe) after the draft... they must sign with said team before the end of the 3rd year. If they don't, they are then eligible to be drafted once again. So after they are drafted, they can play with their junior team and no other NHL team can touch them. College is the exception... a player can go to all 4 years of school and still be part of that team. They don't want to stop you from getting your edumication.

The problem with Downie (who was our 1st round pick last draft) is that he's a hot head. He keeps getting suspended for his actions towards the refs and killing other players.

Point in case - he just got a 10 min misconduct penatly for spearing another player in todays game.
