This is AWESOME news!!!! I did not want to see him go to the Mets like was being talked about. Out of the NL East is perfect.

I actually fully expected him to land somewhere on the East coast, glad I was wrong.

WOW! What a payday!
Guess Zito's goal does not include a World Series ring.

here's the time i should say he sold out and just went for the money and not for a chance to win a ring...but then i think about 18 million straight for 7 years and i'm sure incentives make it even more and i realize...i'd do the same thing if all i had to do was move 10 miles

I am extremely happy that Zito signed with the Giants but I do agree that they spent too much money on him
One quote from the owner to him, at least this is what ESPN says, is > "The Giants will once again become contenders in the NL West if you sign with us" Now I am not sure how this is true, oh wait, they signed Benji Molina to a 3 year - 18 million deal > Now they are going to win the WS Again I believe that their starting rotation is solid and young for once in along time except Morris. The thing about Zito is that he does not over power you, he is extremely smart and has one of the nastiest curve balls I have ever see, Back in the early 80's the Giants has a lefty that was outstanding named Atlee Hammaker. He was amazing, something like 13-0 going into the all-star break, then started the 1984 WS and GOT SHELLED and never pitched the same again during his entire career I truly hope that $18 Million a season is worth it..... |

He certainly was overpaid IMO and went there for the money not a shot at a title. Gammons on Mike and Mike made a good point in that at this point in his career with his climbing ERA as of late this is actually a good place for him since he will pitch 100 games in pitchers parks. So it would appear to me that he wanted the money and will make gains statistically though a shot at wining a WS is not likely.
It looks like the Red Sox made out best in the pitching department this offseason, all things considered.

I like Zito to the Giants, at least for the near term pitchers that switch leagues usually have the advantage the first few times through the new league.
No one however beats the Pirates in off season dealings we signed a veteran Japanese pitcher who was found at a local Benni Hanna's restaurant slinging shrimp and our foriegn scouts found some Cuban pitcher off the coast of Miami, I hate this team ho hum......

again...18 million to move like 10 miles...how could you not take that...it was clearly the highest offer he'd receive...
atlee hammaker....nice obscure reference |
