Marc Jimenez is on a distinguished road
The Refs

Before I begin, I should tell you I'm not a big fan of the New England Patriots or the Indianapolis Colts. In fact, I’m not even a big football fan, but in any event, after watching one of the greatest AFC Championship games in recent memory, (a game that saw the Colts overcome an 18-point deficit...

I think the refs did a fine job in the game, especially noted when there was that TD pass by the Pats into the endzone where the heels were elevated above the line, but not on them. The two refs got together to confirm what each saw, then made the ruling.

I don't remember correctly, but was the defensive pass interference on Hobbs the one where he just jumped up in the air?

the only call I had a problem was on the non-call on the pass interference in the fourth quarter in the endzone, That was rediculous. it would have put the pats on the one, but other than that I had no huge problems with the officiating.

If conspiracy theories were truely implemented the Saints, not the Bears would be in the super bowl.

I think the refs did a fine job in this game, no one is perfect, and I do think that sometimes...especially in the playoffs they should let them play...but that is neither here nor there.

The roughing the passer call, could have been construed (sp?) as weak, but it was the blow to the head, which no matter how soft or hard it is that is a penalty clearly in the rules of the game.

The pass interference call, if I am thinking of the right one was when the defender jumped as the ball was coming without looking back at the ball?? If that is the one, that is absolutley a penalty, always has been and always will be, the defender is not allowed to disrupt the play without knowledge of where the ball actually is by blocking the receivers view of the play.

People need to have the correct facts in hand when making such remarks.

You are right Beers. People should have their facts straight...
From NFL.com:
There is no such thing as face-guarding in the National Football League. It is legal to face-guard a receiver. In order to have pass interference you must have contact. Any act without contact is not considered a foul.

Ouch lol.

Though in my defense, this was a rule in the NFL for a long time that has since been removed, the post I read the posted rules on was obviously taken from the old rules. I'll see if I can find the post. However this is not the first time in recent memory that the officials have called this penalty, maybe they need to re-read their own rule books too.

Interesting, i have seen that "face guarding" interference called pretty often actually. And none of the announcers seem to ever say its not a penalty. Looks like everyone needs to learn the rule book.

BTW
I thought that it was a penalty during the game as well. Not until Monday that I found out that it wasn't.

Just didn't want to be all 'Alex Trebec' on Beers.

Well considering it appears most of us recognize it as a penalty including the refs and apparently the coaches.....how in the hell has it fallen through the cracks for this long?

Though the rules do say, Pass Interference is defined as this this and this, but is not limited too. Is that the loop hole?

It was a great game to watch. All games have questionable calls. The interference was a bad call, the roughing the passer a correct interpertation of a badly written rule. Call aside, the Colts made the plays that had to be made more often than the Patriots did.
