Up Coming Draft

Now that we are well into Super Bowl week, thoughts of the other team's General Managers have shifted to thier soon to arrive "superstars" or the next L.T or Peyton. Many mock drafts are starting to appear and one thing is for sure, that other than some of the skilled positions and obvious selection for teams with obvious needs, most discussions is over the number 1 pick and the number 3. Is it Quinn or Russell or another surprise as in 2006. HUH?
Come on Raiders let us know or leak a little info, true or not. Who is the next Peyton or "Jake the Snake".

I think the Raiders should take Russell or trade the pick, lol.

Now that the Senior Bowl/Week is over the mock draft boards have changed here and there, now the combine I am looking forward to, to see where it all shakes out. There will be surprises in the draft i'm sure, thats always fun.

I am looking at my own mock draft that I will probably post just the first round and try to pick a late round diamond in the rough or two.

I want Leonard to be drafted by the Eagles, I think he would fit AR's scheme really well, though we need to address the D we should look at a big fat DT, LB, and S.

its too early to tell right now....it could be russell or quinn...i doubt thomas from wisconsin will go 1 and calvin johnson is most likely a top 5 pick but not a #1....raiders will take russell i believe if the combine doesn't hurt him...followed by thomas...coin flip determines who goes next..tampa could use johnson and browns could use quinn

I personally think the combine is pretty much overrated for the high end 1st round draft picks. You have all this actual game footage of these players, which is much more important than the combine. In the NFL you play games like you do in college... you don't have a bench press contest or see how quickly you can zig in and out of cones.

It may be helpful with the later round players who weren't exactly playing the best competition.

Oh and I want the Raiders to draft Russell, no question about it. With that size and that arm, i don't think you can pass him up.

Quinn is over rated! I think the Raiders, if they are gonna pick a QB, should take Russell.

I would sort of agree with you jay about the combine but not totally. Teams/Scouts take it all in, their college play, senior bowl, combine, team visits, etc to grade their players.

So even higher first round players should participate and do well at the combine to keep their status high. Its one of the last things that these teams have on the players before the draft. Knowing the strength and speed of the players can play a large part in deciding if this player can perform at the NFL level. He may be dominate in college but if he is slow and weak at the combine that could translate into different draft numbers, and why is he that way? Slackin off, not hitting the gym, etc.

I'd love to know (and may research it) how some players were ranked right after the college season and where they were ranked after the off season stuff they do, just to see what caused that type of change, better or worse.

One thing I love about the draft is that anything can happen. Eagles OL Winston Justice leading up till the draft was a mid first round pick but slipped to the second, I wonder the reasoning for each team. They should have to publicise their draft prospectus for players, for me to read, lol.
