Foolish Rose
I realize the recent trend in baseball is to dislike any player linked to performance enhancing drugs, but after hearing Pete Rose admit to betting on the Cincinnati Reds “every night” while managing the club, I began to wonder…Is there a more detestable person associated with the game than Rose? ...

He has become a performing buffoon. He is doing and saying whatever he thinks will get him press and paid appearances. Being Pete Rose has become his industry and i wish hem well in this endeavoer but do not ever want to see him in the Hall of Fame.

Why don't you want to see him in the HOF, that is bull shit in my mind. Sure he has done a bad thing by betting on his team, but that does not at all reflect what he did as a player. Current and past players have all stated that he DESERVES it. For christ sake he leads baseball in all time hits (you prob know that) and what he did as a coach should not reflect on his greatness as a player IMO > PETE ROSE HOF

IF he had come clean when it first became public knowledge I might have a different mind set.
Baseball is the only sports that has the morals clause. In spite of the fact that over the years it has been convienently overlooked(Cobb, Speaker, Yawkey amongst others) it is there. When baseball decides to eliminate that clause then Pete can get in. I do not believe for a second by the way that he never bet against his teams. |

Oh I know that he bet against his team, I am not saying that at all. I am saying that he should make the HOF for what he did as a PLAYER, not a coach. Every player in baseball disagrees with you, shouldn't they have a say in it and not the writers

If we could speak privately with every player in baseball I don't believe your statement would hold up.
If I may continue my role as devils advocate here. If he was betting as a coach then the odds are he was also betting as a player. |

Gotta see Bil's point in that one, its known he still gambles all the time. Hard to think he didn't start until he was 40.

Honestly I thought the percentage of people that was against Rose getting into the Hall was mostly in the commissioner's office. I see that I am wrong, okay I bow to Bill's greatness

Roses' greatness as a ballplayer is without question, my greatness(?) I am not sure how to take that. Like any other subject many come down on either side. Reds fans for the most part seem to support him, as do many players. I don't and I'm not sure I ever will. I have startred to alter my opinion on Bonds, maybe someone can persuade me on Rose. |

I am a little late on this, but oh effing well.
First, I respect Rose as a player. He was one of the greats. Now, enough with the nice shit. How many lies is he going to tell? He never gambled, then he gambled, but never on baseball, then he gambled on baseball, but never on his team, now he says he bet on his team every game. Fuck this guy as a person. Great athlete....sure. Great person????? No fucking way. |
