New year, new hope... playoffs in '07?

We are apparently keeping Lieber and moving him to the bullpen. Great move! I was hoping they wouldn't trade him unless you get something very good in return. It can not hurt to have 6 starters... one extra to fill in when someone gets hurt.

Yeah it's a real good thing that they kept him now since Garcia has been struggleing and now seems to have gotten hurt. We will need to see how this pans out.

Right and there is always a time through out the year that starters get hurt or need rest. Its nice to have that experienced vet to bring in rather than go with some minor leaguer or middle relief guy.

It might actually help to sure up the bullpen also. Having someone that can come off the bench and give a bunch of innings since they already know that he can go deep into games. Might not have to use Madson as much or any of the other smucks they have back there.

Yeah of course it is impossible to tell how it will all play out... but at least this team is a real contender pre-season this year. I just like the fact that they have a chance.

A lot of people were big on them pre-season last year too. What have they really upgraded, where's all the money spent?

Upgraded 3rd base (Helms), cather (Barahas), pitcher (Garcia, Eaton)

They had a chance last season as well, but are better this season.

SHOULD be better this season. Maybe its just my perception of what you thought the offseason would be, but it didn't meet it.

I like the moves they made no real blockbusters and they didn't address places I wanted addressed completely. But should be better and looks pretty descent so far, though I don't see them as a contender but could be playoff bound.

On paper, the team is better this season, there is no question about that. But of course no one can predict what will happen through the course of the year. And remember, they don't have to spend all of that money in the off season. Its smart to keep some of that for during the season to fix things that may need fixing.

If they aren't a contender, who is in the National League?

BTW...I guess having the flu isn't all that bad...the phillies are on against the red sox. Phils are losing 5-4 in the 5th.

Im so pumped to get their AAA team right here in our area.

Oh and spring training baseball is something i watch when i'm having trouble falling asleep... works like a charm.
