Fat Pitchers??
does anyone else wonder why the hell major league baseball pitchers can't stay in shape? i mean seriously, bobby jenks looks like he's pushing 350 standing out on the mound. when he comes set he's got a shelf to rest the throwing arm and glove on. i love curt schilling, he's a great pitcher, but what the hell man, stay in shape. i always thought that david wells looked like a clown as well. just wondering if anyone else wonders why the pitchers can be overweight and out of shape...
i just watched bob wickman blow a butt load of saves for the braves and now he's on the DL for his back...maybe if he lost a few lbs. he would take some of the pressure of the back huh. |

Maybe it gives them more power on their pitches? More weight to get behind them while throwing? I guess pitchers figure they don't have to run, so they can eat and drink whatever they want. It is pretty amazing how they can be so big and be a pro.

Its pathetic that they are professional athletes and soo damn out of shape but if it gives them more power on the ball then oh well.

Over the years there have been some very successful fat pitchers but very few have had long careers.
Mickey Lolich won 225 for the Tigers and then went into the donut business(no kidding).

Doesn't it give them more "oomph" behind their pitches because of the added momentum. You look at some of the skinner pitchers and some have ridiculous leg movements, like El Duque, and Arroyo.

They don't really "run" in the NL either though, mostly.

no because pitchers go from hitting in little league, hitting in high school, hitting in college, hitting in the minors... to being retarded at the plate once they get to the pros. Its like they forget how to swing a bat.
