RIP Diego "Chico" Corrales!
What a sad sad morning for me. One of my favorite current fighters to watch, was killed last night in a motorcycle accident. He was an all action fighter with a never say quit attitude. He was in some of the best fights in recent history. I will miss you Chico.
Just moments ago, Rob Scott of DoghouseBoxing is confirming some very sad news, that Diego Corrales has died. Diego Corrales, 29, was killed in a motorcycle accident. Diego's manager, James Prince, has now confirmed the sad news in the media. A spokesman at the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department also confirmed there was an accident at the intersection of Fort Apache and Russell Roads in southwest Las Vegas, however the spokesman did not provide any further details on the accident. Quoted by the Kevin Iole of Yahoo.com, Prince, who had just arrived at the scene shortly after 9:50 p.m. PT, (Monday) confirmed, "It's true, I'm sad to say. I'm looking at the scene now." In other media reports, Promoter Gary Shaw said Corrales was driving at a high rate of speed on his motorcycle when he crashed into the back of a car. It happened about 10 miles west of the Las Vegas Strip on Monday night. Shaw quoted in the media, said: "He's laying there as we speak with a helmet on his head under a sheet," Shaw added: "It appears he was thrown a great distance." "He fought recklessly and he lived recklessly," Shaw said. "That was his style." Corrales is survived by his wife and their daughter, Daylia. They had another child on the way. Corrales will be sorley missed. Stay tuned to DoghouseBoxing for more updates on the passing of Diego Corrales. Diego Corrales has Died |

A shame. Motorcycles are a great and fun thing but when shit happens you are gone. I saw no mention of family.

Corrales is survived by his wife and their daughter, Daylia. They had another child on the way. That really makes this whole thing even worse. |

In an ironic twist, Diego died exactly 2 years after one of the greatest fights of all time.
5-7-05 - Diego Corrales beats Jose Luis Castillo by huge KO in round #10. It was hands down the fight of the year that year... and most consider it the fight of the decade. None stop action in a fight both fighters took huge damage. Diego was knocked down 2 times in the 10 round before getting the KO of Castillo. its unfortunate that they say he was speeding, makes you wonder if it was preventable, which it may have been. Shitty stuff.

they said he hit the back of a car and flew off the bike landing and then getting hit by another car who couldn't stop...i would think he'd be going a nice rate of speed for that to happen

Yeah, sounds like it was very preventable... said he was speeding and hit the back of a car and it threw him a very long way. But who am I to judge him for that (i know you were not)... i've been known to go way too fast on my bike as well. This easily could have been me on a couple of occasions.

yes unfortunatley I'm sure it does. Doesn't the risk cross his mind, I guess what they said though was that was the way he lived his life.

Yeah every where you read people are sad and shocked about this. The one thing i really learned today is how much boxing fans as a whole really liked him. There have been other fighters that have died recently... but never a reaction from people like today. Sure he made his mistakes in life and he wasn't a perfect man. He grew up around violence, was involved in gangs, but turned it all around with boxing. But he was great to the fans, very approachable... other fighters liked him, and he was accessable to the media. The word |
