Now I understand that George Mitchell has the backing of Commissioner Bud Selig but does that give him the right to ask for the medical records of past and current players, no it does not. Why would he publicly as for them in the first place. Medical records are one of those items that, to me, should be private and should not be placed into the public's eyes.

Mitchell has no right to ask for these and I understand that the players association is going along with this, but ultimately Palmero and Sosa will have to give their consent and allow Mitchell to look at the records

For this reason, I nominate George Mitchell as JAOW

Isn't it up to the players if they wish to hand them over, not required?

Eh, he has every right to ask for them... he just doesn't have a right to receive them. I can start a thread asking every Rant member to fax their medical records to me. Thats my right... but that doesn't mean every member can't tell me to F off.

I don't care much for baseball, its just a sport I could never get in to, and I care even less about the steroid scandal and all that. My question is how is this guy asking for medical records a bad thing?

I was once among a group of people at a company that I worked for that was selected for a random drug test. About half of those selected screamed loudly about civil liberties and violations of rights. The rest of us just peed in the cup.

Eventually three people refused and lost their jobs, the rest of the civil libretarians peed in the cup and most of them came back hot. Thet also lost their jobs.

My point is not that the company was right(it was a pre-stipulation of employment) or that those that objected were wrong. It is that if you have nothing to hide, why hide it.
