Dean Hancock - JackAss of the week May 25th, 2007 - June 1st, 2007

Well I think that Hancock was an adult and new what he was doing!! What will he really get by suing the bar! Idiot!

Hancock's Father Sues Over Pitcher's Death

The father of Josh Hancock filed suit yesterday, claiming a restaurant provided drinks to the Cardinals relief pitcher even though he was intoxicated before the crash that killed him.

The suit, filed in St. Louis Circuit Court by Dean Hancock of Tupelo, Miss., does not specify damages. Mike Shannon's Restaurant, owned by the longtime Cardinals broadcaster who starred on three World Series teams in the 1960s, is a defendant in the case along with Shannon's daughter, Patricia Shannon Van Matre, the restaurant manager.

Other defendants include Eddie's Towing, the company whose flatbed tow truck was struck by Hancock's sport-utility vehicle in the early hours of April 29; tow truck driver Jacob Edward Hargrove; and Justin Tolar, the driver whose stalled car on Interstate 64 was being assisted by Hargrove.

The Cardinals and Major League Baseball were not listed as defendants.

Authorities said the 29-year-old pitcher's blood alcohol content was nearly twice the legal limit when he crashed into the back of the tow truck. He also was speeding, using a cellphone and wasn't wearing a seat belt, police chief Joe Mokwa said after the accident. Marijuana also was found in the SUV.

He should sue himself and whatever woman he boinked to conceive him. It all started there. If he had kept it in his pants this never would have happened.

While i do feel bad for everyone who was affected by Hancocks death... his dad is a moron. Sue the guy who's car broke down on the highway??? Sue the truck driver for helping?

Your son drank all that booze, your son was talking on the cell phone. Your son made the choice to drive drunk without a seatbelt.

I'm shocked he's not suing the car makers for needing better air bags.

He should sue himself for not teaching his son better than that.

Strangely enough I'm giving this guy a pass right now. I think this is just his grief and emotion lashing out, his son died and he wants someone to pay. I hope in a couple of days though he realizes how bad this looks and drops it. Instead I would rather go with George Foreman and his claims of being drugged before the big fight.

Jay actually came up with this one Rusty, so thank him

I had a friend that was killed in an auto accident back in Hawaii, about 3 years after I graduated and his parents sued the local bar that kept on giving him drinks and it put them out of business. I don't necessarily agree with this but this guy is going a little over board IMO

gee - wonder if he'll sue the ministry of transportation? If they hadn't have built the road then Hancock could not have been drunk driving on it and would not have had the accident. And his dad should find out what kind of beer/booze he was drinking that night - and sue the brand 'cause if they hadn't manufactured the booze he couldn't have gotten drunk. This guy gets my vote as jackass of the year. Who starts a bunch of frivolous law suits before they're even finshed mourning their son's death? brutal.

They should be. He wouldn't have been able to afford the booze, or the car he was driving if they hadn't been paying him. They should be sued.
