Newman wins Cup pole at Dover (AP)

Dale Earnhardt Jr's free-agent price tag just might be rising as fast as his qualifying speeds.

Nice job. Will Newman ever back up a pole with a win or even a good finish?
Highly doubtful. Ummmm,Jimmy Johnson was fastest in practice.
Hendricks will be up front all day.

Hey Rusty, how do NASCAR drivers determine poll positions in qualifying. I figured you would be able to tell me quickly and succinctly without me having to research all over the place, that and I'm too lazy.

I understand fastest time, but do they take turns for hot laps or do they just set up a certain time frame in which drivers have to post qualifying times?

They just line'em up and they go out one at a time for 1 or 2 laps.

So not all cars are on the track at the same time for qualifying?
