Brock Lesnar? Real Impact Yes/No
I have had some trouble following the UFC. Not because I don't think these guys are legitimate fighter and great athletes. I liked it early on when Royce Gracie was a bit younger and was taking down the really big guys. I could relate to that being who I am. Even then though it seemed that the really big guys were not real and true competition. Big, fat slow sumo wrestlers ans such. Guys who really couldn't protect themselves from low kicks and who when they ended up on the floor were doomed.
Things are better now, but the real big guys have yet to step up. A guy like Bob Sapp just doesn't cut it. So here comes Lesnar, arguably one of the few legitimate wrestlers from McMahons world of make believe. He is real. Probably the only better wrestler in the WWE was Angle, and his body is shot. Lesnar won his fight fairly easily but it was not against the sceduled opponent a huge south korean. There are questions about his striking ability. That can be taught. There are questions about his ability to take a strike. that is a bit harder to teach. A glass jaw is a glass jaw. There is no doubt that he knows how to take someone down and once there do what is needed. The questions are as follows: 1. Is he a legitimate figure in MMA? 2. Will he/Can he compete for a title? 3. Will other top athletes step up and follow? |

I think he needs some more fights to be a legtimate figure. That will really show if he can compete for a title. I think if he was competing for a title now what ever promotion he was fighting for would look like the minor leagues.

1 & 2 are impossible to answer right now. Of course he has the ability to learn a great deal in the sport and get better. He seems to have the drive and determination seeing how he was a star college wrestler. I can tell you the drive it takes to become one of those.
But as you said, we have no idea how his chin is, and that could make or break him getting to a high level. Just ask ex-NFLer Johnny Morton about not being prepared and a glass chin. With only 1 fight under his belt, Brock has a lot of time to learn and grow. And #3... the sport is getting more and more great athletes every day. Its really only in its begining stages now... the earlier days of the sport don't even count today... those older guys wouldn't be anything today, not even the overrated Gracies. |

he's gonna need at least 2 more years of serious training to really learn the whole fight game...he has a leg up because of his college wrestling skills...but alot of those guys are in mma now so just taking a guy down and laying on top of them isn't going to cut it anymore....he has a legit shot at being a real fighter if he improves all aspects

Hmmm, looks like we are going to find out sooner rather than later. Brock signed with the UFC after only winning one pro fight. They are saying he could make his debut in February for the "Super Bowl" card. I can't wait!

Very interesting! I'd imagine he's going to get HUGE hype from the UFC. They just lost (or didn't get) two of the best heavyweights in the world. Then, their undefeated "next" champ, Brandon Vera just lost to Silvia. They are really hurting at heavyweight.
