They may very well have a year like the Flyers from last year. And i'm going to love every minute of it!
They lose Gomez, replace him with Dianus Zubrus! They lose Rafalski, replace him with Karel Rachunek! LMAO! Thats going to sting a bit. Full Article |

I'll do all I can to make that happen
I'll be placing some double whammy curses on both the Devs and Rangers. The same curses I used to put on the Flyers years ago.

Excellent!! You are going to have to try to get sister banger injured though... he alone will steal some games.

Laugh all you want; I actually like the moves.
It was obvious that the Devils team as it stood would never win the Cup. I know that as a Flyers fan younger than 35, you wouldn't know anything about winning Cups, but to teams like the Devils, the Stanley Cup is the goal. Three playoffs in a row, the Devils lost to teams that pushed them around. They were manhandled by Ottawa this year, a team that couldn't handle the even more physical play of the Ducks. So they lose Gomez and Rafalski, two of their smallest players. Rafalski tried to play physically, but was just too small to handle the bigger forwards in the league without a partner like Stevens. Gomez, well, I'm not sure I ever saw him initiate contact. Are Zubrus and Rachunek as talented as Gomez and Rafalski? Of course, not. That said, combined they are making less than either Gomez or Rafalski. Rafalski and Gomez's contracts are insane. Rafalski is a great complimentary player (played great with Stevens), but I don't see him carrying a pairing on his own. And Gomez? For the next seven years, he will be paid like Iginla and Thornton. He's another player only as good as the players he plays with. The Devils now have a ton of cap space to work with. They should either sign more players to reasonable contracts or have a lot of room heading into the trading deadline. I'd love to see the Devils sign someone like Comrie. Individually, I'd rather have Gomez than Comrie or Zubrus. But I'd much rather have Comrie and Zubrus than Gomez and some minimum wage hack like Rasmussen. The Devils aren't done. Expect them to sign at least one more free agent (to a reasonable salary) and perhaps to make a blockbuster trade, involving potentially anyone but Brodeur, Elias, Langenbrunner, Pandolfo, or Parise.

Only if Brodeur gets hurt and is out for 40+ games. But then again, what would a Flyers fan know about elite goaltending?
At worst, this team with a healthy Brodeur will be on the playoff bubble. I still expect them to do better than a certain last place team trying to buy its way back into contention.

Zubrus was one of the better Buffalo players in the playoffs. He's not a superstar, but he's great along the boards, very good defensively, and can chip in goals. And he's BIG, something this team was sorely lacking.

Eh, make fun of the Flyers all you want... but I watch ALL hockey, so i know about winning Cups, just not my team. And that retarded comment about elite goaltending, again, I watch hockey. How'd Florida do with Luongo?
You can sugar coat the Devils moves all you want by they got worse during this offseason. Any spin you put on it comes back to the end conclusion, they aren't going to be better this year than last. Zubrus isn't good, and I promise you, you will be bitching about him midway through the season. The Devils, as of right now, are a 4th place team in the Atlantic. |
