Colorado Rockies Playoff Push/Prayer Thread 2007

Is this the year? I don't know... They're better than they have been in... Ages, i guess would be the correct time frame.

At this point, they sit at 59-56, 6 games back of the Arizona Diamondbacks in the NL West, and 2.5 games back in a VERY tight wild card race. They're looking good tonight, up 7-2 over the Cubs thanks to a Jamey Carroll pinch-hit grand slam in the sixth inning.

If the Rockies want to make the playoffs, they NEED to be more consistent. Sweeping the Brewers was nice, but losing the first two games of this current series didn't do them any favors. They've played some great baseball since mid-May, and they've played some awful baseball since them (fortunately, they've played more of the former than the latter).

I'll update in here every now and then, theoretically. Then again, I've returned at least once and not been able to stay, so I guess we'll see.

That was fast.

It's 9-2 now, thanks to a Brad Hawpe 2-run shot to left, almost to the exact same spot as Carroll's slam.

I like it when the Rockies play like this!

Oh, you know. Here and there.

That's not true. I've been working and working and working. That's pretty much the reason I vanished again last year. Cest' la vie.

How different is the world now? The Rockies are in a playoff race, and it's August. Frankly, I'm a little scared.

HUGE win for the Rockies tonight... 15-2 is the final, as the Rockies scored 5 runs in the 6th, 4 runs in the 7th, and 4 runs in the 8th. Colorado improves to 60-56, tied with Los Angeles 6 back of Arizona, and tied at 2 games back in the Wild Card with the Dodgers and the Cubs.

There are more than a few people in Denver starting to call these Rockies the Blake Street Bullies. The Blake Street Bombers are gone, but the Blake Street Bullies are starting to hit their stride.

The Blake Street Bullies... That has a VERY nice ring to it.

Another important win for the Rockies this afternoon, 6-3 over the Cubs in comeback fashion. Down 3-2 in the 5th inning, Troy Tulowitzki hit a solo homer to tie the game. In the 6th, Tulowitzki came to the plate again, this time with the bases loaded, and he pulled through again with a two-run double to right. That put the Rockies up 5-3 and they never looked back.

The highlight of the game was Colorado's bullpen. After started Tim Harikkala left after 3 1/3 innings, the Rockies bullpen prevented a single Cubs player from reaching first base until the 9th inning. Reliever Matt Herges got the win.

The Rockies improved to 61-56, 5.5 games back of Arizona in the NL West and 2 games back of San Diego in the Wild card race.

BIG series starts tonight for the Rockies, in San Diego... Jeff Francis (13-5, 4.06 ERA; 8-0 in his last 11 starts) takes the hill for the Rockies against Greg Maddux (7-9, 4.15). Colorado sits 5 games behind Arizona for the lead in the NL West, but only two games behind the Padres for the Wild Card lead.

Well, it's not going to happen now. Jeff Francis stunk up the joint in the second inning, paving the way for an 8-0 loss on Tuesday.

I still have hopes we can win these next two games to pick up even more ground in the Wild Card, so I'll keep that frame of mind.

Yeah. It wasn't pretty. Ubaldo Jimenez pitches tonight. Hopefully he can manage to regain some of his control and help the Rockies get an important road win.

My fault. Francis is on my choking fantasy team.
