Need some opinions on a keeper league format
I'm in a league that until this year was a Keep 1 player drafted after the 3rd round league..... and as odd as that was, it's gotten a bit worse.
This year, I'm told it's an unlimited keeper league (as many as you want, for as long as you want.) Now I kind of like the idea of a keeper format limited in either number of players or length that you can keep the said player. Have any of you ever heard of this type of league? I'm thinking we'll lose alot of return players if a team gets killed, and that the draft next year will be a waste with half the teams being solid to start with, and the other half scrambling to pick up what in all reality are 3rd & 4th round picks at best. Maybe I'm wrong, and maybe I'm missing something, any ideas? |

Well that certainly is a strange format for a keeper league a few questions:
1. How many teams? 2. How many players per team? 3. How is each subsequent years' draft order decided? 4. If you don't keep X number of players do you pick ahead of other teams keeping more? I am not sure I would ever participate in that kind of league but I see the concern about teams keeping players and worse teams not wanting to rejoin...however it is truley a long term dynasty league things will shake out just like the NFL where the bad teams will get the new studs coming in and the old vets will eventually filter out...but that is long term over years in the league and a lot of money could be invested over that time with little or no return. |

at the moment it's 10 teams, 14 players per team.
Each years draft is supposed to be a reverse of the standings, and you would lose a draft pick starting with #1 for each guy you keep. insane. |

OK, just got an email, now it's "down" to 5 keepers, and you can "only" keep them for 3 years.... I'm in the process at the moment of trying to explain that a new team will never join the league if the first available open draft pick is plaxico burress, and that the following years drafts are going to blow.
I've heard of 2 - 3 keepers, or more keepers but a shorter 1-2 year term, I think this is just ridiculous, any further points on how this league will be terrible will be appreciated. |

I really should, and I say that every year but, the draft is a week away and I'd hate to stick these guys with an odd number of teams......

Well if you implement a 10 team league and make it a dynasty league in which the 10 teams stay in for the long run its not as bad as it sounds. Random draft lotto to start and draft as you see fit for the long term of your team...if a team leaves the league then their entire team re-enters the draft thus freeing up players for a new team to join...really if you get into a league like this it has to be for the long haul and setup from the beginning as such on a clean slate.
We currently do a keeper league...8 teams 2 keepers per year though not from the same position, if you decide to drop 1 or both of your keepers you get picks for those players before round 1 of the draft in backwards order from the previous years standings. We also charge 1 $ per transaction (drop and pickup) and alow for 2 DL spots so to speak on each roster...so if LT is out one week (by NFL.com standards) you can DL him and pick up a player to use that week or into the future but a player has to be dropped to bring LT back. |

I wouldn't join that league. If you have an LT than you are guaranteed to win almost. I am for skill as much as anyone. It's hard enough to win when you draft in the lower part anyway.
