The $20 Million Dollar Discussion
So an arbitrator from the NFL has ruled that the Atlanta Falcons are entitled to recoup $20 million from Michael Vick, which surprised many in the league that the arbitrator would side with the Falcons
What are your thoughts |

The Falcons were dumb enough to give him that kind of money in the first place. To me that means he should keep it. By the time his legal fees are paid he'll be broke. Maybe this will be a lesson to other teams on what not to do.

I don't think teams can think well lets hope this guy doesn't get in legal trouble so lets not give him too much money. He can keep what he's earned thus far but the remainder that he hasn't yet he shouldn't get especially if he isn't playing.

Let's be honest. How much of it do we really think he has? If he is defaulting on loans and losing sponsors left and right, there probably isnt much to collect. Besides agents, managers, lawyers and taxes are all taken out of it also.
I agree with paying up the remainder. |

If Atlanta had done their due diligence on this guy, they never would have given such a big bonus. They deserve to take the bath.

Was it just a straight signing bonus? If so, I say the money is Vicks. They should have put something in his contract to prevent him from keeping it in situations like this (unless they did and i didn't see it).

It is bonuses for the future paid out as his signing bonus when he signed his 130 mil $ deal. He hasn't earned all of that money and won't be able to with the suspension and probable jail time. This will clear up cap for the Falcons to continue to work their team now and in the future with him gone.
He shouldn't keep money he hasn't yet earned which is why the ruling was made. |

Maybe so, but it would not have been hard to figure out this guy was still running with the neighborhood boyos.

There probably is a clause which allows the siding with the Falcons.

The Falcons deserve it back but I don't see how they can get it back

Maybe the falcons could just let him off the hook with 5 extra years in prison so they can cut him since he will never fulfill his contract...that would be fun!
