Cowboys -v- packers

Wow. That was a great game. I always hate when a starting QB goes out. The 'Boys prepare for favre all week and to have rogers come in and play very well throws them a slight curve. I also hate the fact favre went out, even though I think that the 'Boys were doing a GREAT job on him, it would have been better if it were with him finishing the game. (hope he is ok btw)
The pack did a really good job of slowing the 'Boys down for the last part of the second qtr and the first part of the third. Don't let the NFL Network guys fool you though, that was most certainly pass interference.

Now... let's go bears.

I really would have preferred to watch this game with two fully healthy teams and Favre not getting injured. The Pack missed Woodson and KGB incredibly and who knows how things would have gone with Favre at the helm the whole game even though Dallas was doing a good job on him while he played. Bench boy did a commendable job filling in.

That was certainly a questionable pass interference call and I really don't know if he would have caught the ball anyway. Too close to call in a game that close and that big. The officiating itself was questionable and not as a Dallas hater but a lot of them went for Dallas. Grant really looked to get that first down. The bobble ball with Owens out of bounds was terrible and forward progress on the Harris strip was not stopped and that was Pack ball right there.

Entertaining game none the less.

I of course was thrilled with the outcome of the game. I was a little worried that our defense made Aaron Rodgers look like Brady, Manning (the good one) and Favre. We did a really good job on putting pressure on Favre after the 1st drive.

On a side note, the NFL Network needs to get rid of Bryant Gumbel. He is a horrible play by play guy. Three times he was supposed to say the Cowboys and he said Green Bay. When the Cowboys were going to kick their 1st field goal to tie the game he said that Green Bay was going to tie the game. It was 3-0 Green Bay you douchebag! At the end of the game he called Tony Romo, Rick Romo, does Tony have an "r" in it????? I know his 1st name is Antonio but again is there an "r" in it you freakin homo, get more of a manly voice. Again he is HORRIBLE!!!

Ok I vented. Lets go Bears and then we need to beat the Lions next Sunday.

I agree about the officiating to a degree. They eventually got the Owens bobble right, granted it cost the pack a challenge. I didn't see the Harris strip so I'll go back to TiVo and look at it. But the pass interference call seemed blatantly obvious to me, the guy had two hands on Austin and grabbed his arm at the elbow. Not sure what the question was??

Agree with Eli that Gumbel sucks as a play by play guy...he's really dumb.

I was expecting to get bashed senor Nick...glad you're not that homer guy like some. Biggest problem with the TO bobble was that they had to use their 2nd challenge and couldn't challenge the spot on Grants very close first down attempt. The PI play the hands had no impact on the player or the play and he did look back at the ball...non impeding contact is always allowed the feet tangle was the problem which isn't interference. Questionable to me and obviously to the refs who called it both ways and like we both said they were not very good in that game.

Regardless I do have to give props to the Dallas O line they are big and they are good. Nice to see some gamesmanship as well in such a big game...I think it was Newman (not sure) who helped one of the Pack receivers put his shoulder pad back in his jersey after a tackle. Ok thats enough nice Dallas talk before I puke.

Two things here;

The TO bobble: This was called correctly according to the rule, but the rule sucks. He never really bobbled it in the sense that the ball never left his hands. He took a bit to get a firm grip, but he had possession of the ball all along. In my ind that was a catch and a great one at that.

The goal line spot: The ref spotted the ball terribly, he ripped GB off by about 3-6 inches. When his forward progress was stopped he had room to spare. When the placed the ball he placed in wrong.

Very good game, Rodgers stepped up and did his job well. Dallas is the better team in spite of the GB injuries.

I like the rule...you have to clearly have possession of the ball before going out or to the ground...no other way to write the rule without creating an absolute mess.

I agree Beers - the rule is good because it is pragmatic. Sure there will be times (like the disallowed Dallas TD) when it seems unfair to the player, but the full possession rule permits straighforward, consistent calls which makes for a better game.

Kudos to the Pack for hanging in there and almost pulling off the comeback and especially to Rodgers who showed they just might survive if Favre has to miss a game or two. Congrats of course to the 'boys who have shown they unarguably the class of the NFC.

He had possession from my perspective. Both hands on the ball as his his first foot landed, both hands on the ball as he stepped, both hands on the ball when the second foot came down and both hands still on the ball as he went out of bounds. Yes there was movement of the ball but he never bobbled or juggled.

Oh well, I also believe that the ground can cause a fumble if the tackle is sudden and hard enough.

Welcom to my world outside the mainstream!

I really must have watched a different game I didn't seen possesion at all during his progression out of bounds but interpretation is our right.

Ahh the ground caused fumble...that I have argued both ways in my life actually. Again for consistency I think its a good rule...much easier and better for the game to make things as near absolute as possible and not open to interpretation in my humble yet scattered opinion.
