The Jester's Quart: Lenny Dykstra, From 'Nails' to Nailed

I was a huge Lenny Dysktra fan growing up in Jersey. Huge. Tried to bat like him: in that long, stretched, left-handed stance, even though I was right-handed. Dressed up like him for Halloween, with a cheek full of Big League Chew. Checked his awful book "Nails" out of the library several times,...

Dykstra was one of the forst really blatantly obvious juicers in the game along with Brady Anderson. This fact(?) take nothing away from his grit and ball out style of play. All fans, all players and everyone else involved in the game now need to take a step or two back and really consider the true meaning of all of this. Is Bonds truly that evil(personal feeling aside)? Is the era truly tainted, or is it just another adjustment in the game and the way it is prepared for and played?

Again,if it was wrong for one person,it's wrong for everbody.
It's cheating.Baseball not doing anything about it at the time was just as wrong.
What is this? Two wrongs don't make a right but 3 do?
All these wrongs that took place in baseball do not add up to a right.

You are right of course Rusty, but there is no going back. Baseball and all sports have a history of cheating. Groundkeepers watering the infield, batters obliterating the back line of the batters box, spitballs, emery boards, ampheitamines. How do you handle this? I think you just have to acknowledge that it happened, take steps to correct it and move on. No matter what happens the players and their doctors/chemists will find new and novel ways to beat the system.
