Coach of the Year?
According to wikipedia (I know not the most reliable source in the world but I'm too lazy to look anywhere else) the coach of the year award is given to to the NFL head coach who has done the most outstanding job of working with the talent he has at his disposal. Would going 16-0 with the talent at his disposal merit that for Belichick or does cameragate make him unworthy. Or would it be Jack Del Rio who got rid of his starting qb a week before the season and still fielded a 10+ win team. Romeo Crennel, taking a Browns team that was an afterthought last season, and having them on the verge of making the playoffs. Mike McCarthy for winning the division with a very young team and a rejuvanted Brett Favre. Tony Dungy for keeping the Colts on track and in the playoffs despite losing his best pass rusher and receiver.
I personally think that if they go undefeated Bill Belichick should get it because its a feat that's only been done one other time and in this day and age I say its more impressive because of things like salary cap and blah blah blah. Now I know some would argue he was expected to with the talent he had on that team. However, according to the criteria for the award don't you almost have to chose him still? I mean the pats could have just as easily lost 2 or 3 games but for whatever reason they didn't and here they are the verge on becoming the second ever undefeated team. They were expected to win, but not like they've been doing. However I could also it going to any of the other coaches I mentioned earlier. Anyway my question to you the members of Sportsrant is who do you think should be coach of the year and why? |

as much as I HATE to say it, you can't really not give it to a coach that goes 16-0..... hopefully the cheating, fine & loss of draft pick play into the voting so someone else gets it.

I like Del Rio in this situation as well and also like McCarthy as well. Hard not to give it to dick licker but with a cheating scandal to start the year how can you reward that and look past the talent around him. I think a LOT of coaches could take that Pats team to an unbeaten season given the talent.

The patriots have gone into every game this season with a bullseys on their back. As the season progressed that bullseye got bigger. Belichick kept them focused and redy no matter the opponent. Del Rio has done a great job and Crennel also as have Phillips in Dallas(to my surprise). Award goes to Belichick.

great point beers that many could have taken that team to a perfect record, didn't think of it that way. I vote Del Rio also.

Many could have? Then why haven't there been more undefeated teams. As good as the Pats are the 49's and Cowboys of years past were as good if not better. They had had pretty good coach's also and did not go undefeated.

Bil, that team is stacked on both sides of the ball...I think a lot of coaches could have taken that team to an undefeated season...no way to ever tell...just opinion vs opinion. He's a great coach one of the best all time but with the talent on that team they made him look better than he made them play better.

Bil...NO...let the Pats be the Pats they won everything else and broke all the records possible...hell they may never lose a game again till this team is dismantled or they all die of old age...another coach deserves to win this working with much less.

Can't go along with that. IF they go undefeated he has to win.

Again, by the definition given, it would have to go to Del Rio. Why is it, Bil, that if they lose on Saturday he would not be worthy but if he wins he would? It's not like he turned around a misfit team, they've been solid for years now.
More with less = Jack Del Rio |
