Explanation and Apology

This may be the most difficult thing I have ever written. Many of you read our very first interview with a professional athlete last week. Although I took every precaution to confirm the identity of the person I was talking to, the interview was taken off the site when Mike received a call from someone stating that he was Dan Hinote, and that he did not do that interview.

Obviously, there was a lot to sort out, and still is. I have had contact with both men in one way or another, and both are adamant that he is the real Dan Hinote. I have been very clear to both of them that not one word of an interview will be posted until positive identity proof is established, and the Rant is legally covered.

If it turns out that the Dan Hinote that called Mike is the real deal, then I owe an apology to him, and to all of the members. No way would I make something like this up. I never would mislead anyone like that, and if that is the case, I was the most misled of all. You can rest assured that all future interviews will require the athlete to provide to us proof of their identity, and a signed release and consent form.

Lastly, the “second” Dan Hinote, has agreed to provide me with the required proof and consent, and conduct an interview early next week. If there is any good news in this mess, maybe that is it, but I am not counting on anything until I have it in my hands.

We are still moving forward with this program, just a little bit more cautiously. I appreciate everyone’s understanding, and apologize for any confusion.

IF the person that I did the interview with (Keep in mind I am waiting on proof from both) is a fake, yes, I have considered that. I have also considered that it could be someone out to get me.

Either way, if they are indeed a fake, they went through A LOT of trouble to attempt to pull it off.

I had a long phone conversation with the second one tonight. Barring a real ringer, I suspect he is the real deal. But I will get proof.

That is the way I am leaning tonight, but there are circumstances that I am not at liberty to discuss which could change my mind.

I don't want to post anything and have to retract that too. At the very least, I will be 100% sure and have a rock solid interview on Monday or Tuesday next week.

I wish I could tell you the whole story, but I cannot. There are potentially innocent people involved that I do not wish to drag through the mud. When this is straightened out once and for all, maybe I'll write up the whole tale.

I will say that the "Dan" that gave me the interview was very cordial and personable, and the "Dan" that came forth later was very professional, pleasant, and believable.

For me to share any more would be unprofessional and potentially damaging to the site at this point.

I just wanted everyone to know what was going on, and that if the wool was pulled over anyones eyes, it was someone pulling it over mine, and not me pulling it over the member's eyes.

Just hard to believe there are such deceitful people.Impersonating a hockey player of all things.All the time he must of put into that effort for so little gain.
