College Sports This forum is about some weird social strata involving brow-beating, bragging, one-upsmanship and self-proclaimed superiority. Not necessarily involving athletics.

Notre Dame lives for this

Be aware, I don't like Notre Dame at all. I think their fans are often extremely arrogant, and put down those who root for others (this may only be my experience with them, though), and I think a good number of Fighting Irish fans root for them because of their tradition of excellence, whether opponents of them like it or not. In other words, those fans aren't really NOTRE DAME fans, they're Winners fans...sunshine fans. Those kinds suck.

However, Notre Dame faces Michigan, when many predicted a blowout. They won. Notre Dame faced down Michigan State, when much talk was of how they usually seem to lose to them these days. They won again. Notre Dame faced Tennessee when Tennessee was talking National Title run. ND won again. They did, however, lose to Purdue when the talk was of how the Boilers hadn't won at ND for 30 years, and lost to Pittsburgh when Pitt hadn't beaten them since the last ice age or so.

They've reached higher when they've had a swaggering power to face. They now face #1 USC. I will go out and "mistakenly" predict the Fighting Irish defeating the Trojans, at Southern Cal. If I'm wrong, and USC sees the danger of Notre Dame, then oh well, I guess I'm wrong.

I too have rooted against the Irish, can't stand them.

But this week I'm a Irish bandwagon jumper.... Go Irish beat the sissy boys from LA...

I learned to dislike ND when I was stationed overseas in Germany, one of the Television stations that we could catch was this super station from the UK. It was bought out by NBC, who in return started to show EVERY fricken ND game all the time. Your right about their fans, the players and the whole fricken school.

But as far as your prediciton! No way man, USC will not loose this one, anything to keep the sooners out of the number 1 spot. Plus I like USC's QB, he has talent and I am a fan of southpaws

I have hated Notre Dame ever since I was about 6 when they beat CU for the national title in 1989, and then when CU beat the Irish the following year in the Orange Bowl. I will never, can never, would never root for Notre Dame against anybody, save for Nebraska or Michigan.

Mike!!! Sooners should be capitalized!!!
Lienhart or whatever his name is, can't touch White and you know it... See your posts from last year. Southpaws are like the left coast, screwed up and confused...LOL
Why should USC be ranked 1st anyway?? I think Auburn or OU should be 1st with USC being 3rd. The Pac 10 sucks even worst then the Big 12!!!!

People hate Notre Dame because of the undeserved arrogance they display. They achieve less with more advantages than any other team yet they always fall back on their "storied program" and being "the Lord's gift to college football." If you are in NBC’s pocket – and their hand is in yours – this Notre Dame pride stuff is what you sell America. And there’s no shame in the fact that Notre Dame’s tradition – very remarkable and outstanding in its own right – has been packaged, marketed and sold to the masses as college football’s Promised Land. It seems to be sacrilegious to criticize Notre Dame. I believe in Jesus, but I don’t believe his hands are outstretched over a football field. Most of the Notre Dame fans I know are too ignorant to admit when they suck anyways. Think about this for a minute. The last time Notre Dame won a bowl game was 10 years ago. Nebraska has won THREE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS since Notre Dame last won a bowl game. Irish fans will always be ignorant and pride themselves on their so-called holy program, but I think any real college football team knows where that program sits right now.

I know OU had fallen, but Nebraska? You'd never ever think they would fall.. I hope Callahan can get it together. But I don't know. I think he's alot like Brown of Texas, you know recruit good, but can't get over the top. Hope not though. Good luck in the future..

I hear a lot of people here in Nebraska saying that about Callahan too. And that he hired a staff than can recruit the hell out of guys across the nation but won't be able to coach them worth a damn. Who knows, I can only hope for the glory days of the OU-Neb rivalry to return.

Yes, we are arrogant/ignorant, and yes, we have sucked in recent times....but Bob Davey almost completely ruined the program. When Lou Holtz was coach ND had some of the greatest teams and the top recruting classes. Then, Davey came in and destroyed it. They got rid of Lou Holtz because they felt he was gaining to much control/power in the school.

Anyway, this years team is really weird. They can beat the teams that they aren't supposed to beat and lose to the ones they should walk all over (i.e. BYU) but they do play some of the best teams in the country and have one of the toughest schedules, you all have to admit that.

About the USC game though, I don't know if they will be able to pull it off. This is a rivalry game and both teams are gonna go out there and give it their all, but I don't think Notre Dame (I can't believe I'm saying this) is good eno
