Belichick Lecture Last Night
I went to this lecture last night. If you recall I got the tickets a few months back and let you all know I would be attending. My tickets included the after-lecture champagne and dessert reception but the coach did not attend.
He started of a bit tentatively as he spoke about his fondness for Salem. This surprised me a bit as I was unaware that he had ever actually spent any time here. That didn't matter to the crowd as he was greeted with a standing ovation. You could tell he was a bit uncomfortable as he began. His speech was peppered at the with uh,s and more than a few "ya knows" but as he passed the preliminary stuff and progressed from advising students on career choices and sequed into football he relaxed and became more natural. The lowlights were provided by some of the younger audience members who insisted on trying to start a rousing cheer everytime he mentioned a player. That got old quickly. Questions were presented by students but were pre-screened and filtered through a dean of some sort with really bad combover. The highlights were contained within a long session where he he brokedown practice and game film detailing the evolution of a play called "Raven". It was originally designed to be used against Baltimore and was eventually used with great success against the Steelers. You would remember this play because it was the one where Brady lateraled to Moss in the backfield. Moss of course dropped it before throwing back to Brady who threw downfield to Gaffney for the TD. He went through the origin and genisis of the play in paractice, it's unsuccesful use in the Baltimore game and of course the TD against Pittsburg. The play was actually helped by the Moss drop becuase it caused the Steelers defense to hesitate and allowed Gaffney to break fron Anthony Smith, or "good old Smitty" as Belichick called him. He showed a lot of practice film from last years spring camp. The team as a unit running laps every time someone jumped offsides and another featured Vince Wilfork catching a punt with his rightt hand while holding another football in his left. Wilfork's catching or not catching that punt was the difference between ending the morning practice with double windsprints or giong home for the day with no afternoon practice. He caught it. All I can really add is that Belichick displayed a little humanity with his hesitant start and then as he got comfortable he also showed some style and a little panache. Yes Virginia there is a personality there. Last edited by BaldBil; May 1st, 2008 at 11:02 AM. |

There is a follow-up story in the paper today. Apparently the great Belichick got lost on his way here and had to be vectored in by cell phone by an assistant.

How is that brown nosing? I hate the pats and especially the cunt, he doesn't and had a cool opportunity, I'm glad he liked it.
I would have loved have had him spill a drunken champagne story about how he banged Brady's girl in the bathroom while eating his chocolate mousse off her ass but he didn't go that direction. |
