Nebraska
Its official, the greatest streak in college football has come to an end. Nebraska lost to Colorado today at home ending the season 5-6. We won't make a bowl game for the first time in 35 years. Congrats jtg, Colorado played a hell of a game. Can't wait until signing day and next season. Go Big Red.

Okay, I have to say it, so I'll get it out of the way:
Nyah nyah nyah nyah nyah nyah, ha ha ha ha ha ha,. That said, thank you CUJays, I appreciate it. Most of the Buffs' good fortunes were, however, good luck. Conversely, Nebraska suffered from a very opposite streak of bad luck this season. Colorado did dominate this game today, but Nebraska still managed to put a scare into us and, if it hadn't been for that tip on the on-side kick attempt with less than 2 minutes left, Nebraska very likely could have come back in a big way. I am, of course, ecstatic Colorado won for the third time in four years against the Huskers; it gives us some pride, at least for one more year. Still, it's not quite as exciting as if Nebraska had been ranked or if both teams had been ranked. So the streak of bowls ends at 35 years, and the streak of non-losing seasons ends at 43 years, but I sure as hell wish my team could boast such an amazing pair of records. Congratulations are in order for Nebraska as well. Besides, the way it's looking right now, the Cornhuskers will likely be starting a whole-new streak in the 2005 season. So congrats to Nebraska for fighting so hard through a difficult season, and congrats to the Buffaloes for fighting through an equally tough season and off-season and still managing to win some big games. GO MISSOURI!!!

Thanks for the classy response, couldn't expect the same from half the members here. If Missouri stops the semi truck that ISU is turning into, good luck with Oklahoma. Go ahead and throw the BCS into more controversy with a win.

Well my Huskers have just completed a season unlike any I've ever seen them complete since I was a little snotty nosed kid,but what the hell, that's the price you have to pay when you have to rebuild. The lone consolation is that the the future is going to get better and it will start next season because the recruits are starting to roll in and I can't wait for next season to get here.Best of luck to all those Big XII teams that will be participating in bowl games this year and we look to rejoin you once again in the years to come,as we'll have to start a new streak.

That said, ISU certainly does seem to be turning into a power in the North (or maybe they were just barely good enough this year to take advantage of the weak-ass North). Either way, I don't think Colorado or Iowa State stands much of a chance against Oklahoma. While it would be fun to throw the BCS into another mess by beating the Sooners and kicking Texas completely out of the BCS picture, I doubt it'll happen. I'll just be very thankful that Colorado will be going to a bowl this year, and it looks as though it's possible we could actually compete for a victory this year (unlike against Oregon 3 years ago and Wisconsin 2 years ago).

What was the deal with four or so players leaving the program about two weeks ago? Were they any good? Did they leave because of the new system Callahan is putting in?
Trying to put in the West Coast Offense is difficult. The Huskers had to change their whole identity and philosophy. You're bound to lose players that way. Callahan coached an NFL team to the Super Bowl and he's bringing in a great recruiting class. Two more years and they'll be at the top of the Big XII again. But for now, the rest of us can enjoy watching the Husker Nation suffer a little bit!! |

Only two players left the program. One was Danny Muy, one of our better recruits from last year. He left because his mom is pretty sick and he wanted to be with her. There were rumors of Horne transfering but they aren't true.

Nope, here it is:
Saturday, November 20, 2004 Associated Press LINCOLN, Neb. -- Four offensive linemen have left the Nebraska football program and plan to transfer. Chris Patrick, Danny Muy, Ryan Schuler and Cory Timm are the players who are leaving, the Lincoln Journal Star reported in its Saturday editions. Patrick, Muy and Schuler were scholarship recruits. Timm was a sophomore walk-on from Yutan. Patrick, of Ithica, Mich., was recruited by Frank Solich, who was fired after the 2003 regular season. Patrick said he had nothing against first-year coach Bill Callahan or offensive line coach Dennis Wagner. "They were good to me," Patrick said. "But they weren't the people who recruited me, and I just wanted to move on." Patrick confirmed that Muy, a heralded recruite from Tallahassee, Fla., also was transferring. Muy could not be reached for comment. Schuler, of Sioux Falls, S.D., said he received his scholarship release Friday. Schuler redshirted last season because of a blood clot. He said Callahan and the NU athletic medicine staff believe he is too much of a risk, though he said his doctor recently cleared him to play. "They gave up on me before I was ready to give up," Schuler said of the coaching staff. Schuler said he last spoke to Callahan in the spring. "I couldn't even get a phone call from him after I asked for my release," Schuler said.
