Wild trade F Rolston to Tampa for pick (AP)
The Minnesota Wild have traded forward Brian Rolston to the Tampa Bay Lightning for a conditional draft pick. The Wild will get a selection in either the 2009 or 2010 draft. The pick will depend on whether Tampa Bay re-signs Rolston before they know what pick Minnesota will get in the deal. Rolston was due to become a free agent July 1 if the Wild couldn't reach a deal for re-signing him.

I don't think I agree with what the Lightning are doing. They are just throwing picks away and these guys are going to test the market anyway.

I'm willing to bet they already knew they could get deals done with these players. The Flyers sat down and talked with both Hartnell and Timonen before they made the trade for them.
And if so, Tampas really adding some nice players. |

Yeah, they aren't in a great position, but when they traded Brad Richards away, that cleared up around $8mil a year. That right there almost covers Malone and Rolston (guessing on $$$ amount). However, they are still going to have to sign a bunch of really cheap players to fill a roster. Plus have the #1 overall pick Stamkos step right in and center the 2nd or 3rd line.

Totally forgot that they unloaded that huge Richards contract so makes a little more sense but still seems like they will have some trouble. I dunno it just seems like they are trying to make a run with some of the moves they are looking at making but I just don't see it being feasible.

Still nothing as of this morning. I imagine Rolston will not do what Malone did.

You're right Rusty...
The Tampa Bay Lightning gave it their best shot, but forward Brian Rolston is going to unrestricted free agency. Sources say Rolston informed the Lightning this morning that he would become an unrestricted free agent at 12 noon and see what the market will bear for his services. More on this... Rolston tells Lightning he's testing the market |
