I'd like to know exactly how much the six year deal that he was so insulted by was worth. One good year and these guys want the world.

honestly I can't say I blame them. Any given year there are maybe a dozen running backs that could justify big money, he ran for something like 1k in half a season last year and is the only viable running threat the packers have to offer. coming into this season there are a lot of unknowns with the team and no guarantee to repeat the performance if opponents focus to stop him so he may as well cash in now.

I agree the money is disgusting, but in a career that often doesn't last a decade I guess you have to get paid.

Good points. But should he be holding out? I think he should be in camp while negotiating.

NO, he shouldn't be holding out.

HE SIGNED A CONTRACT! If he didn't like the amount of it, he should have told them no.

wow, that's a bit idealistic. sadly someone set the precedent years ago that quietly expressing your contract dislike while continuing to perform and play does not get the dollars moving like a good old greedy hold out does.

Well right, idealy (sp?) he shouldn't be holding out.

BUT, i do understand it in the NFL... the non guaranteed contract for the players making very low money (in the grand scheme of the NFL) could be cut at any time reguardless of how long they signed for. I've always made the arguement that if a team can break the contract at any time, the player should be able to as well.

I can't stand holdouts and those that seek to demand more money. (Westbrook is doing the same right now and is under contract for 3 more freaking years AND they went against everything they are about and offered him the max additional money according to the CBA, but he wants more years, Brian, you're 29 and under contract till you going on 33...they aren't dumb).

Back to the topic, I tire of the "can be cut at any time" crap about the players being able to breach their contract cause of that. If you (players) want guaranteed contracts...done deal every owner would do it, but you will see signing bonuses mean absolutely shit if they even exist anymore. The point is the real money in any contract that is signed is in the signing bonus which is guaranteed so the majority of their money is aquired right then and there. The other aspect is that sure they can be "cut" at any time but not really, the reality of it is that it does affect the team negatively to do so with cap hits.

Whats my point to all of this? These guys holdout and demand more money when under contract or in their last year when they've already been paid a ton and that irks me. I don't buy the my career is short or I can be cut at any time because the reality is that all the money they make from day 1 of their contract and through endorsements and all the other money making avenues they have at their disposal is a ton more than most fans will ever even dream of in their lifetime...you dont invest it or plan your future based on your "career expenctancy" too fucking bad.

Cheers!

fuck that, you guys need to pony up and pay westbrook. there is no excuse for not paying the guy that has been your entire team for half a decade.

Oh but they offered the max amount they could according to the CBA to fatten up his current deal with a lot of money...which as anyone who knows the Eagles organization knows thats way beyond what they typically do. I think he should have taken the money, he is an injury risk and getting older and older...extending his contract 3 or 4 more years (he'll be going on 40 by then) isn't a good idea which he should know. He has said he expects LT money...I think he deserves more but he can't be greedy considering everything.

my interpretation of this situation is this:

he's a free agent...so technically he's not signed so why should he be in camp?? 1.75 in guaranteed money is insulting considering all the horrific rookie contracts being signed nowadays..he's more proven then those guys..that's another topic though...he came to offseason workouts and now has to sit out..i can't see how he could take the chance of practicing and getting hurt without a contract in place
