Tarver vs. Johnson - Sat. 12/18
Tomorrow night on HBO it will be the battle of top light heavyweights and battle between two guys that knocked Roy Jones Jr. the hell out. Antonio Tarver (22-2, 18 Ko's) and Glenn Johnson (41-9, 28 ko's) will battle for the mythical title of light heavyweight supremecy. Both fighter realized that this is the top fight in the division between the top two fighters. But, if they excepted this fight, both fighters would have to give up their belts. For some reason the boxing commissions would not recognize this as a title fight. So for the betterment of the sport, the fighters gave up their belts to make the best fight happen.

Should be a good fight, but I predict Tarver to win by a late TKO (around round 9 or 10).

In a pretty suprising upset the "Road Warrior" Glenn Johnson beat Antonio Tarver in a split decision saturday night. The judges scored it:

116-112 for Tarver
115-113 for Johnson
115-113 for Johnson

Johnson becomes the unoffical king of light heavyweight. Even having 9 losses doesn't take anything away from him because in the last two years he has beaten all of the elite fighters of the division. He has wins over Eric Harding and Clinton Woods, also a knockout of Roy Jones Jr., and now the latest win over Tarver.

Now, after seeing the fight, I am still shocked as to HOW the judges gave Johnson that win. I will be re-watching the fight to see if I had totally missed what was going on. Tarver out landed Johnson by a wide margin on both total punches and power punches. Maybe because of their styles (Johnson always going forward, and Tarver playing defense and counter-punching) the judges went the way they did. Anyway you look at this, I believe there will be a rematch around March or April of '05.

yeah, makes you wonder sometimes man. It was funny however... In the 8th round, Tarver had Johnson in trouble (meaning hurt Johnson) and I couldn't help to think "I hope he knocks him out here, i will have some good bragging rights over Rusty". lol, but no, I not only picked the wrong outcome (i said TKO) but also the wrong winner. Well, wrong winner by 2 of the 3 judges cards.

Anyone else watch this?? I would love to hear what you thought. Did you also see Johnson as the winner??
