College Sports This forum is about some weird social strata involving brow-beating, bragging, one-upsmanship and self-proclaimed superiority. Not necessarily involving athletics.

Big 10 Bowl Games

No one's giving any love to the Big 10, so I figured I would. I would like to see how the Big 10 does in bowl games this year compared to other conferences. IMO, the Big 10 is one of the best, if not the best, conference in the nation. Maybe not the best this year, but ALWAYS near the top.

Bowl games this year...

1. (#22) Ohio State beat Oklahoma St. 33-7
2. Minnesota vs. Alabama
3. Purdue vs. (#24) Arizona St.
4. (#16) Wisconsin vs. (#7) Georgia
5. (#13) Iowa vs. (#11) LSU
6. (#12) Michigan vs. (#5) Texas

So far the conference is 1-0... the 2nd and 3rd games are today (12/31)

That's because, in college football, there are really only three conferences that are ever really good and really competitive on a consistent basis: the Big 10, Big XII, and SEC. Sometimes the Pac 10 is up there but not nearly as often as the others.

Minnesota made the use to be 2nd best defense (yards given up) in the nation look like nothing, but again Boise State's 4th (actually tied for 3rd with USC & 5 yards more than #2 Cal) ranked run defense had more holes in it than a damn sponge.

Purdue and Wisconsin both lost. Iowa will win and Michigan but will lose.

3-3 for the big ten.

I'm a bit surprised that Purdue lost...I don't know why that surprised me though.

Not surprised by Wisconsin losing. Another Barry Alvarez team losing at the end of the season. Shocker.

That Iowa win over LSU looks very good for the conference.

Michigan would have won if they were ranked in the top ten in the polls since Mack Brown was on the opposite sideline. Although a scUM win would have been nice and would help show how overrated the Little 12 is. Plus I was happy the Big Ten went 2-1 against the "great" SEC.

And finally, I know I had fun viewing that Buckeye scrimmage last Wednesday night. Oh wait, there was another team on the field...
