| College Sports This forum is about some weird social strata involving brow-beating, bragging, one-upsmanship and self-proclaimed superiority. Not necessarily involving athletics. |

Is it too early to ask?
Not for me.
Already, there are rumors that Carroll could be interested in the SF 49ers HC/GM job. No, neither one is open.....yet. SF would have to fire GM Donahue and HC Erickson, and then pony up for Carroll. Apparantly, Carroll, who is from the Bay Area, is interested. How interested? $$ and power speak loudly, especially to a guy with nothing really yet to prove in college, wants redemption for his failings in the NFL (Pats and Jets) and is feeling awfully full of himself right now. Plus, he and offensive guru Chow don't get along. Could be nothing.....but it could be something.... |

Carroll won't leave USC. He was only a decent head coach in the NFL. He was better as an assistant at the pro level, but right now he looks like a genius with these college kids. He's put together a great system, a fantastic team, and back-to-back national titles. He's not going anywhere.

He's already competing at the highest level anybody has seen in college football in years. He doesn't seem like the kind of guy who has a big ego, one that needs displaying for all the NFL to see. Besides, why would he want to lose for the next half decade with San Fransisco when he can compete for national titles at USC?

Uh, Pete Carroll has a big ego. Maybe not Mike Martz size, but he has an ego.
BTW, he apparantly has said he is not interested in the SF gig... |

I agree with you jtg,Carroll has already said that he isn't interested in the 49er's at any price. He's secure in his position at USC and will coach there for as long as he desires and why would he give up all that he's got at SC to go to the pros where he would be dumped back out on the streets after one failing season with the 49er's,because who knows how long it's going to get the 49er's back to a competitive level.

Maybe $25 million and total control of a NFL franchise doesn't mean anything to you, Raider.
PC is smart. If he gets what he wants from SF, he goes....but not until AFTER signing day at usc. He and Garrett are backhanded enough to make that type of agreement to be able to secure recruits. Watch, the closer it gets to National Signing Day (Feb 2) without SF getting a head coach, which they really don't need at this immediate time, the more likely Petey goes to SF. |

Carroll is and NFL coach, you know he wants another crack at the pros. He is now in a position where he can pick his time and place. If you think Carroll is goiong to be at USC for the next 10-15 years, you are snorting the same cocaine as Bush(not Reggie).
