Recruiting
#1 WR Fred Rouse commented yesterday that he would love to play his college career with Ryan Periloux tossing him the rock, and said that the University of Texas is his new leader............
In other news Rivals.com moved Oklahoma up to the number 1 class, with Nebraska dropping to 2, and Tennessee expected to take a big leap(#5 right now with only 16 commits) The Army All American game is Saturday in San Antonio and many of the uncommitted players are expected to announce at halftime............. |

Rouse has some serious academic issues to clean up. Last I read his hometown Seminoles were his leaders, and he also had big things to say about Alabama.
At the AAA game in SA, it is expected that LB Ryan Reynolds will choose between OU and Wisconsin, although his family wants him to go to UCLA. OU has been his long time leader, but with recent commits from two of the top ten LB's in the country (Reynolds is considered one of the top as well), Reynolds may look harder at Wisconsin. He apparently is enamored with their coach, Bielema. DT Roy Miller, who is a strong Texass lean if not a silent verbal, should announce as well. UCLA and Utah are also in the mix. His Dad will be transfered to the west coast which may prompt him to choose UCLA; he has a cousin that plays for the Utes. Texass is considered the favorite. |

You need to read up on Rouse, hasn't qualified academically yet, but as of Tuesday on the insdier's networks is a strong Texas lean.........Periloux is doing some recruiting, the #1 tight end in the land(name is escaping me and I don't want to read up on it) is also considering between Texas and A&M, but Ryan is grabbing his ear too..........

Martellus Bennett is the TE you are speaking of, correct?
I follow recruiting pretty closely. Rouse has talked about all kinds of schools from usc, UCLA, Alabama, Texas and FSU. According to the main recruiting analyst at Student Sports, Rouse has a lot of ground to make up academically. There are so many recruiting sites and recruits give so many different opinions it's hard to figure out what they're saying most of the time. He may say to one analyst he's going to FSU; to another Texas (where Rouse does have an uncle) so you never know. |

Bennett is the TE I was talking about, looks like he will be a last minute decision, hopefully for UT, but the ags are strong there. Meanwhile interviews with Rouse's mother have her loving Fred getting out of Florida, loves Mack, and strongly pushing him towards Austin. I got my fingers crossed on the academics, the Horns could certainly use a big time receiver about now....

Bennett will end up at Texas, left his A&M visit with no change in the favorite he said.

A top five class, even a top ten class is a great class. There really isn't a huge difference in a #5 class versus a #1 class. Coaching makes the biggest difference. When Osborne was the coach, Nebraska very rarely had even a top 15 class, yet how many NC's did Osborne win?
Callahan is proving he can bring in top recruits. He still needs to prove he can coach 'em. Look at Mack Brown. He's considered one of the best recruiters in the country, yet what has he won? |

A Rose Bowl, the Big 12 South, A holiday Bowl, a Cotton Bowl, and 9 games a year since he's been there, oh and a 25 million dollar contract....

Meanwhile I do agree class ranks are nice, but not definite. These kids still have to make grades, fit into your system, buy into whatever your selling, and fill needs for your ball club. Now the talent has to be there first to accomlish the other stuff, but I would say the talent difference between 1 and 10 is not great enough for a good coach to overcome.......
That being said I don't think Callahan could overcome a cold....... |
