As Eminem, Destiny’s Child, ‘Lil Jon, Snoop Dogg, and Chingy prepare to release their newest albums on the music market this coming week one might expect a few youthful wish lists to include some of the aforementioned names.
As tempting as those tunes sound, Vince Carter’s list is headlined by a different want – a trade.
Vince used his wish in the NBA off-season when he voiced a fancy to play for a competitive team. Now that the Raptors have the ‘competitive team’ part down pact, all they need is to get Vince to play.
And so the hard part begins.
After few face changes between seasons the franchise emanated stagnation but as the Raptors opened with three straight victories, the team’s powerballin’ welcomed optimism.
Fans grew buoyant as the Dino’s broke the century mark against the reigning champions in the second game of the season while their franchise player only contributed 12 points.
As l looked to complete a successful opening home stand, Vince finally dropped it like it’s a hot – a three pointer that is – breaking a tie game with regulation time nearly expiring against Portland.
Nowadays, with Vince, when he does make a shot, it goes without saying that it was from the perimeter.
As the Raptors eased back to reality with a 1-3 start to their first road trip of the season, Vince’s contributions a week later in Portland were closer to what his diminished presence has become than the first meeting between the two teams back home.
With the Raps trailing by as many as 20 at one point, Air Carter was not involved in the epic fourth quarter rally. Vinsanity watched from the bench, head wrapped in towel, to the sheer delight of the crunked Trail Blazer crowd.
While gratifying to the rival, Canadian basketball enthusiasts should be rankled, and might just lose it.
The superstar who was once deemed the next Michael Jordan, and then dubbed the most popular player in the NBA, has fallen so much that he might soon be on the backside of an Eminem retort.
Once crowned the slam dunk king, number 15 has only rocked the rim twice this year. Matter of fact, seeing Carter drive to the basket has become as rare as the clothes on Beyonce’s lower legs.
The glorified jump shooter has become so accustomed to the outside look that he’s only visited the free throw line 19 times this year – four more than Milt Palacio, who plays 15 minutes less per night.
With Vince’s 14.3 points per game, and his 3.7 rebounds per game, the crucial question remains: why is he still in a purple and red jersey? He does not want to be in Canada anymore, and the team has proved their mettle with limited effort from him, so it’s time to get what you can for his waning talent.
Just like when Destiny’s Child ridded two of the four originating members and replaced that couple with a single, more captivating female, the Raps need to exchange their softie for some goods.
Vince Carter and Vince Carter’s lack of heart mix like Mondays and me.
