PWR Released - January 9th, 2005
Forget the polls, the PWR (pairwise ranings) have now been released. For those of you unfimiliar, PWR is the system used by NCAA hockey to determine which 16 teams qualify for the tournament. Here's a ranking system that (BCS listen up!) makes sense...

PWR is a team by team comparison of all teams under consideration (TUC's). These are the teams with an RPI (ratings percentage index) of .500 or better. Each team is compared with every other TUC in four areas, record against common opponents, head-to-head competition, record against other TUC's, and RPI ranking. For each criteria won, a team recieves 1 point. The team with the majority of points in the comparison gets the PWR point. In the case of a tie, the team with the better RPI wins the PWR point. The teams are then ranked in order of PWR points. Say there are 30 TUC's, the maximum PWR score would be 29. A more complete (and probably more clear) explanation can be found at PWR Explained
