This is the final chapter of the ultimate sports trip, and as you will read, it was a complete success.
KP and I arose early Sunday morning and hauled ass from Marina Del Ray to the Burbank Airport to catch a plane to San Francisco, my part of the trip was about to commence. After arriving at Oakland International Airport, we drove our "economy" car over to Marin County, just north of San Francisco. The Giants game started in less than two hours, I was watering at the mouth. Only true baseball fans really know the feeling of what was going through my mind. We were about to witness the oldest rivalry in American sports today, one so heated, with roots back to 1869. I had never had the chance to partake in a Giants game at PacBell Park, oops, SBC Park.
My dad, who lives in the bay area, told us that we could take the ferry across the bay and right to the ballpark then after take the Bart to the Oakland Coliseum for the Sunday night ESPN Raiders/Chiefs game. That was a great suggestion and worked out perfectly.
SBC was amazing, coming into view as soon as we passed under the Bay Bridge, the stadium started to take shape. The ferry pulled up right along side the stadium and we disembarked. This was by far the finest stadium in baseball today, McCovey cove right there, a place named after the Giants hall of fame first baseman, a place made famous by Bonds.
The Giants, the Dodgers, SBC Park, Bonds back, and seats right behind home plate; this was the greatest sports day of my life. The game was amazing, and Bonds finished off the ultimate sporting event by splashing an 8th inning homerun into the bay, the Giants winning 5-3, I was happier than a bus load of fat women on the way to see the Ricky Martin.
After leaving SBC Park, KP and I then ventured via the subway to Oakland to watch the Raiders/Chiefs game. This was the final event to cap off this outstanding trip. To our astonishment, we were not allowed to bring a backpack or any sort of bad into the game. There was nothing that we could do, what a disappointment, and talk about being pissed. Our tickets were outstanding and we sold them without a problem
With our trip now at an end, we spend some time with my dad and brothers, then went back to the hotel to pack and come home. We left the bay area early the next morning and arrived home safe and sound.
This was the ultimate of our yearly sports trip, which is only 3 years old. Next year we are contemplating on an east coast trip, perhaps NY. I hope that by then more Ranters like Avery will join us in our quest for the ultimate sports trip
