Ring ceremony today at Fenway - April 11th, 2005
Today will mark the second time this season that the Red Sox and Yankees meet in a rematch series of last years ALCS. The first time around, New York got out to an early lead and won the first two games before Boston won the third and final game of the series. This time the match comes back to the city of Boston. More importantly the Red Sox will reveal the World Series Championship rings for the players and team before the game starts.

It was a very long 86 years for the Red Sox and their nation of fans. Finally, they have broke the curse and won it all. At first, the Sox were not going to give the rings out today because they felt it would be rubbing it in the Yankees face. However, it is tradition that they are given out at the Home opener for the team. After realizing that the Yankees would have done the same thing to Boston if it was the other way around, the management decided that the rings would be given out today.

Red Sox manager Terry Francona was released from a hospital Friday; two days after experiencing chest pains that doctors said were likely caused by a virus. He should be in attendance at today’s game and bask in the glory of the ring ceremony. He endured the entire season last year and became an intrical part in the history of the series.

I think that the Yankees deserve to be the team in Fenway Park more than any other team as a way of officially ending the curse. It is alleged that the New York Yankees and Babe Ruth are the reason that the Sox have not won a championship in 86 years. It is only fitting that they officially be crowned in front of them. I mean, the Yankees have a shrine for the Babe behind center field that taunts Red Sox nation every time they go to the Bronx.

The Red Sox had no control over the schedule that put the Yankees in Fenway Park for the home-opener. This will hopefully be fuel for the fire that has been lit between these teams for quite some time. This series is incredible for the game of baseball and all sports. Maybe now, it will start becoming less lopsided. Maybe when A-rod sees the players on the Red Sox team receive their rings, he will realize that is something he has never received, but most of his current teammates have. It will make him want one, not only because he never received one, but because he doesn’t want the Red Sox to have anymore.
