So it is football season again! Does anyone really care at this point! Isn't baseball season coming down to the wire and pennant races tightening, I believe so. Even though I am an avid baseball fan, football is where my heart is, almost all the time when it comes to sports.
While you may be an avid fan of other sports such as hockey or basketball, football is the true American past time, without a doubt and I WANT you to prove me wrong. Everyone has their favorite team, even the bandwagon fans are on board, okay maybe not until later on in the season, but there around, believe me.
When it comes to being a fan of the National Football League everyone I know has a favorite team, excluding women that is. A true fan will back their team, no matter what the current state their team is in. Take my team, the San Francisco 49ers, whom have not been competitive for almost this entire decade.
Bandwagon fans just plain old pisses me off, they think they know everything about there "team" and may make statements such as:
- "I have always followed my team." - Yeah since the start of the season or when they won the Super Bowl championship last season.
- "I have always liked them" - Something they say in passing.
- "We've won 5 Super Bowls" - Something they saw on Sportscenter the night before when ESPN was doing their team segments for the upcoming season.
Fans such as these make me sick; they know nothing about the sport, nothing about the rules, anything about the history, which leads me to my next point. You want to find out if your co-worker, friend, or family member is an avid fan, well test them dammit, plain and simple! Now this is not directed at the "fan starting out", this is directed at the true "bandwagon fan" and their so-called love for the game. Give me a break!!!
Maybe I am just ranting here, but by living in Dallas, I have the RIGHT to make these statements. "Oh the 49ers suck" or "They have never done anything", these statements coming from bandwagon Dallas Cowboy fans, whom I meet on a regular basis. Just the other day, my half-brother-in-law, said "Yeah this is their year!" How the hell would you know man, because they signed Terrell Owens, yeah that is why they are going to win the championship! Friggen Idiot!
No matter who your favorite team is, a true fan will know everything there is to know about their team, the crappy years, the best years, stats, home stadium name. Now they might not know all the players names on the current roster, but they'll know enough to make them a true fan! Can you, off of the top of your head, name the scores, Super Bowl numbers, and MVP of your team? Can you also name the starting quarterback during the crappy years, like the 49ers of the 1970's. I as sure as hell can!!
One person that really ticks me off about this is my wife, probable the truest bandwagon fan of all time. She cannot even get the standard game formats, an example of this can be recalled when she asked me which inning it was in last season when I was watching another 49er loss because she wanted to go her mothers house or shopping. It's Sunday dammit, leave me the hell alone! Thing sure change though when the Cowboys are in the playoffs and we are over at her dad's house, "Sshhhhhhhh, I watching the game!" I am like: "oh yeah, what inning is it in?"
Now this article or Rant is not much of anything, doesn't really have a topic or cover anything that really makes sense because I am writing it and your not. That is a freedom that I enjoy, to Rant and Rave about nothing and then publish this crap on Sportsrant.com, a right that we all have! As the English would say "Piss Off" if you don't like it
