Deion Branch won the Superbowl MVP recently. He had a good game and helped his team to win. However, Deion shouldn't have gotten the new Caddy. Guess what, Tom Brady shouldn't have gotten it either. It should have gone to Terrell Owens. Terrell Owens has personified the image of the modern athlete. His egregious end-zone celebrations have become Sportscenter material. His "Sharpie" stunt has been replayed millions of times on TV and will never be forgotten.
However, what is not being talked about is the heart that he displayed during this game. He had always said he was going to play, but no one believed him. There were many in the media who thought that he was saying this so that Donovan McNabb would not be distracted. When he suited up for the game, New England and the rest of America thought he was just a decoy. Well, we were flat out wrong, as he proved to be much more than that. He had 9 catches for 122 yards and ripped up the Patriot secondary (Freddie Mitchell....are you taking notes). I could not believe what I was seeing. He was making cuts, running routes with precision, and even pulling away from guys. This was from a man who doctors said would have no bearing on the game. They said he wouldnt even be walking much less playing in 6 weeks. Owens never once mentioned anything about the excruciating pain he must have been going through.
I think Deion Branch played a great game, but Terrell Owens absolutely deserved the MVP. Without Owens in the line-up, the Eagles lose that game by at least 21 points. If McNabb has even an average game, Philadelphia probably even wins. For all of these reasons, the NFL should have broke with tradition and awarded the MVP to a player from the losing team. Terrell Owens is the real MVP of the Superbowl. He was by far the most valuable player on the field.
