CHICAGO -- Boston Celtics guard Tony Allen has been charged with aggravated battery stemming from a fight that escalated into a shooting outside a West Loop diner two months ago, a police spokeswoman said Friday.
Allen was to appear later in the day at a bond hearing on the felony charge, Officer Laura Kubiak said. Allen's attorney, Michael Zaslavsky, said the player is not considered a suspect in the shooting.
Zaslavsky said Allen has been in jail since Wednesday, when he voluntarily went to a Chicago police station to meet with investigators.
One man was shot in the left arm and left side Aug. 29 when gunfire erupted during an early morning fight at the White Palace Grill, police said.
Allen was drafted by the Celtics 25th overall in 2004 and started 34 games as a rookie. He averaged 6.4 points and 2.9 rebounds.
Allen, who had a small piece of cartilage removed from his right knee in September, has not played in the preseason.
