For most of this decade the San Francisco Giants have been on top in the National League West because of one man, everyone’s favorite, Barry Bonds. One statement proves the Giants fate this season, without him in the lineup, they suck. Giants Owner, Peter Magowan and general manager, Brian Sabean are the so-called driving force behind the team. Sabean has made smart moves in the past but something has gone drastically wrong this season.
The solution has always been to find someone to hit behind Bonds since his rise to supremacy. There is only one thing that these two leaders are failing to do, well should I say not willing to undertake, go out and get a big name player besides Bonds. While opposing teams have taken the pussy route and avoiding Bonds, the true failure of this team is the lack of a second power hitter.
Sabean, From the AP:
"In a perfect world, you want to dovetail him and have someone in line," Sabean said Tuesday. "Having said that, he`s a rare bird and I`m not sure you can replace him. He`s taken us to the Promised Land because of his presence. It`s a little bit fragile, a little bit nerve-racking" to think about not having him.
• This is not a perfect world, so get off your ass and do something about it.
• Your payroll dropped 10 million so do something about it, go out and beg, fight, steal if you have to.
Money is not the issue here, which is a load of crap! SBC Park has been almost sold out since it opened its doors a few years back. Like most ball parks , SBC has it share of high prices and with its location, one can only think what it costs to get a dog, beer, and some peanuts there.
Last night against the Cubs, Jason Schmidt pitched a one-hitter in a win, but this still showed the Giants lack of hitting. Unless their bats turn around, the Giants well dwell in the cellar of the National League West.
Season Prediction for the rest of the way, look for Sabean to pull his head out of his ass and acquire some mid-season acquisitions, won’t make the playoffs due to age. Rebuilding time in city by the bay.
